So as most may know I recently studied for my NEBOSH qualification and part of.that is submitting a project that I completed at work. This was due in yesterday.

Sadly my nan passed away in tje early hours of Friday morning and so I emailed the contact at the company my work has employed to put is through the qualifications to explain what had happened and ask if an extension would be possible if I required one although I was fairly confident I wouldn't.

I had no response to this email and so sent another, copying in another contact at the company on Tuesday asking.for the to at least acknowledge my emails and mitigating circumstances which may be important should I need to.claim them if I fail.

Luckily I didn't need the extension as I submitted my project yesterday afternoon but I am still a bit miffed that neither.person has taken the time to respond to my email.

Luckily I am a heartless cow and have been able.to get back to work and complete my project but what if I hadn't? What if my mum needed me to help.more with the funeral arrangements etc?

So, do I take this further and complain to the people at my company who organised the course or to NEBOSH themselves or just leave it alone as I submitted the work anyway?

This isn't the only email they have ignored as I gave some constructive feedback on the mock exam feedback they gave me (all 2 lines of.it!)

If it affected your wellbeing or put you out I would say yes

If it's purely about what if? No.

I would complain to the people who actually accredit the course. They wont be happy that you didn't receive the correct support and help throughout

If it was me I would complain to the person in your company who organises it ccing the two you sent the message to and also the Accrediting qualification company too.

Speak to the person in your company first, explain what you are doing and tell them that you find it disrespectful and unprofessional that not 1 but 2 contacts ignored you....

Good luck.....business these days just don't care

Absolutely i would..

Credit to you for being so strong, but what should happen if Mr Joe Bloggs wasnt so strong. They should have a policy in place for this kind of bereavement. We are human after all.

Bloody rude of them not to even acknowledge the emails

I think I'm erring towards this. I got my project in on time so it was of no consequence really but I think I'm just miffed that when.someone has told them they have had a family bereavement no one has responded.

Maybe I shall just stay miffed of Evesham and hope that.come may I wont need to deal with them again lol

nooo dont just sit back..

what happens 'if' you fail (im every confidence you wont) and you need a resit. They didnt acknowledge your emails. Your mental state might have effected the work.. and would have been unfair to make the work when you were subconsciously focused on other more important matters.

Back where I belong

Definitely complain to both, especially as you've been ignored by two contacts.

They have a professional responsibility which they aren't fulfilling regardless of whether you needed them to or not. I would complain on the strength of that alone I've spent too many years watching people neglect important parts of their job because they have been able to get away with it.

Yours mightily fed up of people who just don't care

Your needs are primary now - so I'd take a step back and consider how best you can look after your health and mourn.

I'm guessing that the complaining could be done at any point, so it's may be fine to pause on that, whilst you look after yourself.

In the meantime if there's any other way you could further vent your anger/frustration etc, it could be ideal too. I know you run, so perhaps a good run or kicking some punch bag etc - or just a good moan with friends?

I'm guessing that the company and awards' body stipulate contractual terms of service, such as response times and procedures - if not followed then there may be a penalisation. It may be tiny or there may also be a specific route but staff are unfortunately in a situation that is tough for them.

But I'll go back to saying that I think you do need to be cared for - and one of the people to do this is you. Ensure time and rest from working is right. And that you're supported by whoever is right, because of losing your grandmother.

In 20 years time those emails will seem distant but your grandmother will remain loved and important. Thinking of you - I'm sad those bstards didn't get back with an offer of help, you deserved that.

You don't have to complain as such... But you could question them on why you where not responded to

My first thought is double check you sent the emails to the correct address. Once you established that, then raise it with those concerned that you did not receive a response from your communication and ask for an explanation and apology.

I wouldn't make it a major complaint, you don't want any extra pressure and stress at this time. But nor should what happened be ignored, another person might not have been able to complete the assignment and have needed the extension. So let people know what happened, so that it doesn't happen again.
