If you have youths playing and being noisy.. Possibly to the point of damaging property, should you step in and possibly make things worse .. Or.. Leave them and talk to their parents?

I would say yes, But I always remember when I was in my early teens and doing something I shouldn't and this Man came up to me and said why are you doing that don't you care about your area and how it looks, At that moment in time I didn't, I still feel embarrassed about it to this day

I was also working in someone's house one day and he told me a story about kids throwing stones/bricks by his house, One went over his wall and nearly hit his 3 year old, He chased them and went to the house one of them ran into, As he was explaining to the mother about what they had done when one of them came up behind him and hit him over the head with a stick, He said if it wasn't for the fact that he worked out and was a big Man it could of been a lot worse,

Be careful what you say and do

Happens way too often here but they haven't done anything to me or my propert... So Personally doesn't bother me but I know it does the neighbours, as we often get police knocking on the door asking us about the 'youths'...

Young people are the responsibiliy of everyone. They have to exist and parents cant be everywhere so I normally would tell them...but I think we should be talking to them anyway...ifci pass a group id normally say "alright?" Maybe a short conversation...fof the most part they want to talk to adultx that are not whinging..once youve communicated, people become humans.

When i was on the buses we had some right little buggers at night whi were out of control...not paying mayhem rtc but Id make yhem all get off andvline up and grt their money out show passes etc.. lol loved it.

Video it and put it up on Facebook - your local community page. Or pass it on to the neighbourhood watch

Sad to say, but unless you know them or their families, then you may be asking for trouble by confronting them

Ah I probably wouldn't do any thing. Where I come from youths hang round on the corner, hooded up attempting to look menacing.

Worst case scenario a window gets broken or a fence panel.

It's a pity you can't do what you could back in the day where you give them a clip around the ear, then drag them to their house by the scruff of their necks and tell their parents where they would get another clip around the war and sent to bed!!

Try it now you'll probably end up stabbed by the youth, stabbed by the parent or nicked!!!

Tricky, keep an eye on them and if need be have a jokey quiet word see what response is. If they are from decent families go tell their parents. If it's just a bit of early evening noise let it go, if it's vandalism you have to try and deal with it.

Remember when my kids were babies some older youths were throwing a steel trike frame from across the road hitting my house wall ( no garden wall was right on pavement) over and over drive me mad so asked them to stop and they were very offensive and threatening. When they threatened me and family I picked the biggest and picked him up by the throat lol. Was just about the batter the little shit when I thought better of it given it was in full view of the whole street! They came back later and egged the house, white painted cottage, I was livid if I had caught them I would have kicked seven shades out of them. Called cops instead they were awesome, they picked them up frightened the hell out of them and made them wash my whole house lmfao. Then told their parents.

Next night there were about six of them stood outside my door. So I decided I was not going to be intimidated in my own home so went out to "shop" walked straight up to the middle of them and said evening, excuse me. They stood shuffled and moved out of way, I swear if one had twitched I would have taken his head off! Never heard a peep after that.

Thing is things escalate quickly so go carefully. We were all kids once

Not meeting

My elderly neighbour opposite complained to the pcso's. The youths then egged his house - the mess was awful. We live on the walk to the shop so probably encounter them more than most.

They play knock & run. I email the high school & ask them to remind the kids that it can be scary or dangerous for the elderly etc.. Then it stops for a bit. Our head gives the kids grief if they embarrass the school.

I have a 14 yr old that doesn't go out & a 9 yr old that's desperate to be out!! I'd like to think they would behave though.

I feel sorry for them - all our youth clubs shut last year. Out fields aren't lit so unsafe. Where are they supposed to go?

Playing and being noisy at 6.30pm is to be expected. Shame there aren't places they can go to play football other than near cars and houses.

I get this in summer because i live in an end terrace they play footballs against the side of it. Most i can pull up but last year one night tgere where about 20 of them. Shit hit the fan when they climed ovee our wall into the garden. My hubs hit the roof cause they scared our girls.

They came back two nights later amd graffitid all over the house in the night. We reported it but had to leave it there till it had been seen. Probably more grief than giving them a bollocking.

I always prefer to go and hand out the bollockings though as they usually just say oh sorry and move on. If they get arsey though they arent half as arsey with me as they are with my hubs. Xx

When I was eight we moved to lancaster. The night we arrived my old fella spotted the local lads checking out he doors on the car so he opened the bathroom window and asked if he could help them.

He happened to be casually holding a .243 hunting rifle at the time..no ammo or bolt in it so it couldn't have been fired..They didn't know that.

Funnily they never did it again.

Wrong no you can't, you must ask for permission to record anyone on your phone or if you have a cam fixed on the you must make them aware by a sign stating they are being recorded as you are invading their privacy. However, when it comes to recording young children that could be classed as something totally different and for me being a parent I would be none to happy about an adult filming my child.

I would try and make peace before you make war. If you try to embarrass a teenager in front of their friends it won't end well. Personally, I'd go out and say something like "all that football must be making you thirsty, why don't I buy you all a lucozade?"

For the potential cost of a lucozade each you can find out how reasonable they are and then have a quite word with the leaders somewhere between "if you must play football can you watch the cars" or "isn't the park down the road more appealing". They might grunt at you and decline, but they are very unlikely to attack you for offering a drink...

If possible move the car and kick the ball round with them for 10 minutes. then suggest it may be more fun in the park. If they are being deliberately destructive pick the biggest one up by the lapels (no bruises) and whisper quietly and calmly that they should move or he will pay.

Worked for me when 30+ teenage boys were vandalising mine and several neighbours gardens while attempting to gate crash my daughters party. Of course I made sure nobody else heard my threat, and would have denied it if questioned.

take some discrete photo's incase your car gets damaged for police evidence, if you do get on to them be prepared for pay back, as kids that age simply like to aggravate when told off

It's a tricky one... Can you ask them to move on and play somewhere else? When we were kids we lived in a culdesac and the boys in my group used to play football against a little old man's house. They used to smash penalty shoot outs against his front wall and laugh when he came out all anxious asking them to stop. Wouldn't usually be during the day but early evening until about 9pm.

At the time it seemed pretty harmless to me but now I can see how they terrorised that old guy.

Are the cars parked on a road (if so they may be causing and obstuction in law and need to be moved)?

It seems the car drivers are the ones causing the problem and not the kids playing football.

But as always we do not know the full picture so can only comment on the view given by one person.

If a child is kicking a ball near my car or house they get politely asked to move somewhere else. If they keep doing it they get husband and teacher voice. If they keep doing it after that they get batshit crazy neighbour lady (an image I cultivated over some time).

Blah blah blah "we were all kids once" fuck that. My house, my car, get the fuck away from them. Also it's annoying.

Luckily I have now moved somewhere that all the neighbours are elderly. Bliss.

"I would try and make peace before you make war.

Where are you from that teenagers hanging out in the street are drinking lucozade?

Give them enough white lightning to give themselves alcohol poisoning then they'll be quiet for a while "

I didn't say you weren't allowed to lace it with something else

Speak to your local community policing team express the issues you have. If you feel it's not being addressed gather evidence of damage and any crimes being committed and submit it to the police.
