Stupid comments, but he said them 10 years ago when he was a student.

He's apologised in detail for them and the apology does sound like a sincere one to me.

Also, he got into this bother because he was critising Mike Parker for comments made about people moving to Wales - he seems to be standing up for those people. Sounds like he has changed his views therefore (though Parker's comments are even older, so perhaps Thomas should be gracious and allow for the passage of time and changing views too)

I know a lot of my views are very different to ten years ago and I certainly talked a load of shite further back when I was a student. I'd hate them to be used against me now (including ones on Nationalism too),

Mr Thomas has now apologised for his comments. In a statement he said: “I apologise wholeheartedly for these comments, made while I was a young student.

"These are not my views now and I deeply regret writing this post online. Every candidate at this election will have gone through a political journey.

"Most will have said or thought things when they were young and at university, college or school that they now regret. This is certainly the case for me.

"The people of Ceredigion deserve an MP that will stand up for them and fight for our communities. They also deserve an MP that will admit when they are wrong.”

I particularly the last sentence.
