We have been contacted a few times now inviting us to house parties that turn out to be charged for events. Is this a new phenomenon? How do people get away with charging for house parties? We all pay to attend licensed clubs but who would pay to attend someone elses house? Surely this is against fab rules.rant over.

To be honest in principle I don't object to making a contribution towards covering the cost of hosting a house party

You wouldn't give a friend 10.00 for a lift? Well you'd offer but they'd decline.

Oh hi Lisa thanks for the glass of wine, here is 3.39 to cover the cost.

Just doesn't work like that lol

I agree soxy covering costs or taking the hosts a small gift is a different thing to having a set door entry fee which is stipulated as such.

We have never been asked to pay for parties, and at a guess I'd say we must have been to over 30.

Now and then some have asked for a "plate" for the buffet, but that's about it.

We'd pay if the contribution was small, and towards something that they provided to enhance a party, like a hired hot-tub or similar, but the OP is correct in saying that some of these "parties" are more like commercial enterprises with huge profits!

That's ridiculous! I would never pay to attend a house party and would never expect anyone coming here to pay either.

Bring a bottle is the usual isn't it?!

Covering expenses is fine but I'd not pay for someone to run it as a business from home.
