"What would you do, if anything about a neighbour who consistently refuses to strap their toddler into their car seat? As a parent myself I think it fucking irresponsible not withstanding the illegality of it." Its a hard one, I would have a small fit if any of my kids didnt have seat belts on and id expect the same of any responsible parent. But telling another parent to do it is inviting an argument

"I'd have a quite word and mention if I saw it happening again I would contact someone that they would be prepared to listen to. I would take the friendly approach first though and not be confrontational." Tried that a year ago, no joy. Well- they did for a while- but not any more ![]()

"Tbh I'd seriously consider reporting it. My concern would be for the childs welfare, not the adults. At the end of the day the child isn't in the position to protect themselves. Would also love to know if they had the car seat professionally fitted. Whats the point if you don't strap them in? Don't think I could live with myself if, god forbid, anything happened to the child and I could have helped prevent it. " ![]()

"Then I'd report them. All very well people saying mind your own business, bit if they have an accident and the child is hurt, or worse, how are you going to feel knowing you could've done something? ![]() ![]()

I am not the one playing fast and loose with my childs' safety. If I report them, I could well become the subject of their hate, it being obvious that I have tried to discuss it with them previously. They are not particularly reasonable people.

"I've faced this problem when I was a taxi driver. The woman said I can't strap him in because he doesn't like it. My reply was then your going nowhere. The mother strapped him in and he screamed like.... well, a baby. I told the mother I can't possibly drive with your child screaming like that and distracting me, you'll have to either shut him up or get a bus. In the end they got out and was shocked when I said £5 please, then she stated screaming... you never took us anywhere. No I didn't but I turned up for you, £5 please. She wasn't happy but I got my fare. Motto of this story, keep your kids under control and teach them manners." How old was the child?

No way was I moving without him strapped in. If I'd have got caught, I'd have faced the rap and a fine. No way am I or would I pay for someone else's stupidity.

Well funnily enough I looked in to the laws surrounding this and it might be legal for emergency journeys and unplanned taxi rides. Which doesn't make it ethical, of course x

"Right op, its over a year since you spoke to them. Your obviously concerned. Have a word with social services or health visitor or something then you can put your mind at rest that you've done what you can. If they don't take note there is nothing more you can do." Oops good suggestion, I never considered social services x

I had another guy that I was taking to hospital and he told me to drive through red lights. My reply was if you wanna drive through red lights you should have rang an ambulance. ![]()

All very well people saying mind your own business, bit if they have an accident and the child is hurt, or worse, how are you going to feel knowing you could've done something? ![]() ![]() Very tough one because I understand where you're coming from. Working with the public its easy to see those who just don't give a damn, or just don't have the common sense to look after their kids properly. My workplace is seen as a creche to leave their kids at while the parents bugger off shopping for a bit. One little lad was left standing playing at the video games section for 45 minutes!! I just kept making sure he was okay every 5 minutes. Turns out his Dad had buggered off to the bookies!! I was so angry that he'd left him on his own in the middle of the city centre for that length of time that I had a quiet word that it was out of order and got nothing but abuse and threatened, after making sure his kid was alright all that time.

I was going to say mention it and ask their advice. From what you've said must now I'd let them get on with it as no seatbelt isn't the only thing that's causing the child harm and if that's now they behave I'm sure social services will all ready be involved
