Ringo has become a bit if an arse over the past few years, he was the least talented of the band, as was once said "is Ringo the best drummer in the world?" To which came the reply "ringo isn't the best drummer in the Beatles".

George Harrison didn't get enough credit for his talent in my opinion, and he was a visionary, he bank rolled "the life of Brian, and for that we will all be truly grateful

True? Could be... False? probably....

Do I care ? No: I always thought the Beatles were rubbish anyway .

Ringo Starr? Never was entirely in touch with reality; what little brain he has , will be pickled out of existence by now anyway.

I believed that line about him not being the best drummer in the Beatles for years.

One day a friend of mine who is a fabulous drummer and has been successful in music pulled me up when I said this and gave me a long lesson in Ringo Starr's brilliance.

I went back to listen to the records again and he was right - he's an incredible drummer. Don't believe me though - believe Dave Grohl, Max Weinberg, Amir Thimpson, Jim Keltner, Stewart Copeland and a whole bunch of other great rock drummers .

Amazing musician - bit of a knob though!

Music taste varies from person to person, so to some people they will appear shite!.

That said , a very large majority of musicians, the people that actually understand music best, rate them right up there at the top, Noel Gallagher, David Bowie, Jimmy page, jimi Hendrix, Elton John, Freddie mercury to name a few, for a band with a 7 year life span they certainty knocked out a wide range on the spectrum and influenced an awful lot more!.

As for the conspiracy theory about Paul, yes I've heard it many times and discounted it even more, the fact that George Harrison went to school with Paul McCartney and even cilla black

in ten years the only ones who remember one direction will be themselves, yes they've made their money and sold lots of tunes but its 'legacy' and contribution to music is pretty much zilch..

yes the Beatles like or loathe where about at at time of transition and largely down to George Martin they did contribute to that hence their stuff is still played today like others of that era..

will any of the 'boy and girl' bands of the past few years be equally remembered and played on air in 50 years time, doubt it..

Does it matter how long a song takes to write, I'm not sure that's a measure of a masterpiece?!

George Michael wrote Careless Whisper on a bus ride, you might not like it but the amount of record sales say otherwise.

Those are the hardest songs to write, simplistic yet complicated enough to be whistled or hummed and that stick in the sub conscience long enough for influence.

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

The problem with Lennon and McCartney is that they were great together, and shit when apart. Harrison and Starr used to write songs, take them into the studio the next day, and Paul and John would play them 'Hey Jude' or 'Strawberry Fields'. Harrison got on a lot better when he was solo, whereas McCartney tended towards whimsy and bland (although I will never not like Live and Let Die).

Lennon decided to go down the activist route, both personally and in his music, but he was a terrible human being in real life, and its only his early death and the manner of it which has written his history.

Love them or loathe them, the Beatles have had a massive influence on music since the early 60s, but I truly believe that our current McCartney is the original, if only because he hasn't written anything worse than Maxwell Silver Hammer since

Poor timing, what a gag it would have been if he had waited long enough to reveal this at Paul funeral, just as the button to the cremation was pressed to ensure no possible evidence

Story has been around for decades, I think people wanted an explanation as to why the band split, and would grasp anything they could.

Or it could be true, the post 66 lyrics were much better than the early stuff

Lennon and McCartney had this ability to look at stuff in life and write wonderful, whimsical, melodies with great lyrics. The fact that the sixties had this cultural revolution to write stuff about just made it easier for them

It's covered versions stand as testimony.

That particular track is off plastic ono band, one of my personal favourites, it's actually 50 times better if you know anything about Lennon's life.. As it's basically him opening his beliefs and how he got them, to the effect it had on him!.

Sure you can say she loves you yeah yeah yeah is bland or easy but try putting your emotions and life experiences to melodies and then linking them altogether, as an album plastic ono band is brilliant because it's whole is greater than the sum of its parts, which is exactly how Lennon had gone with his Activism

Jesus Christ!

I really wasn't going to comment on this thread again, but this post is so typical and wrong.

Any short research into the history of The Beatles will show that far from being talentless, McCartney was the primary driving force behind the band.

From 1966 on, when Lennon began to dabble with drugs, Paul held the band together.

Maybe have a listen to some of the songs. If he sang them he wrote them and there's a hell of a lot,

From I saw her standing there, to Let it Be.

He was one of the best bass players in world, and was as good as George on lead Guitar too. He can play keyboards very well and drums as well.

Listen to Maybe I'm Amazed. He played every instrument on it. Now tell me again he was talentless.

I know he hasn't written anything decent for years, and that he's a bit of an arse, but you cannot replace fact with personal predudice. Especially when you weren't even around at the time.

Bit more than manufactured, they didn't play the instruments, write the songs, or find gigs and play in back street venues. it was a TV show that ran for years only, followed up by the 4 actors recreating the stage show as if they were real. They were the first Spinal Tap. nothinges wrong with that, but it ain't rock and roll

Damn. Missed all the commotion. Ebony and Ivory, and the Frog Chorus were pretty abominable though so maybe.

I always thought Ringo seemed like the most 'normal' one, the type you could have a cheeky pint with in the pub, but as the years have gone by, and his transatlantic drawl has got more pronounced, he does seem to have become a bit 'weirder'. George was the nicest and least up himself. It took me a while to recognise that.

"They did well for such a shite band..

That's because they were far from shite !

Whether or not one likes their music is a different matter , but to just say they were shite is a typical response on here .

Record sales , the influence they had , the creativity and sheer volume of unique work they did certainly don't make them shite

funnily enough i was being ironic which if you read my later comment is evident..

I knew you were

I'm bowing out on this thread after seeing someone suggest Busted are more talented ..... "

Especially when you weren't even around at the time."

It's been said on numerous threads that everyone is entitled to their opinion, and anyone can post their views. Or is that just when it suits some people... I am not a fan of the Beatles and really don't like their music, but I don't remember putting anyone down who does in my thread!

"The Monkees were far better at their lyrics and tunes than the Beatles and didn't get half the credit they deserved

Umm, they were fictional

They were the first manufactured band... An unheard of concept back in the 60's... These days you can't move for them

Bit more than manufactured, they didn't play the instruments, write the songs, or find gigs and play in back street venues. it was a TV show that ran for years only, followed up by the 4 actors recreating the stage show as if they were real. They were the first Spinal Tap. nothinges wrong with that, but it ain't rock and roll "

not quite true ... peter tork and michael nesmith were working musicians before they auditioned for the monkees ... in fact stephen stills recommended peter to apply as he had been turned down ... micky dolenz played guitar and sang in a bar band ... and little davy ..well he was a song and dance band ...

as for rock and roll ... it was they who invited jimi hendrix to open for them .. and after he left ..vanilla fudge took over ... also hidden in sgt peppers there is at least on monkee lurking ,as they were invited to contribute... the beatles themselves saw the joke ...and recognized their talent .... .... phew

George Harrison was very talented, no doubt about it. but his song writing didn't really blossom until later. He had a handful of great songs with The Beatles, Lennon & McCartney had dozens.

You are simply echoing the "Macca was shit" schtick started by Lennon when they fell out.

I really don't care whether people like The Beatles or not, each to their own. what I don't like is people posting statements of no merit because they don't happen to like someone.
