I know I'm going to get a thrashing here for being the grammar police but I am never going to meet someone who can't even spell basic words.

A big part of attraction for me is conversation so if I read bad grammar I find it a turn off immediately. Sorry before anyone gets really offended just giving my view x

Try telling this to the Chinese and Japanese!

Yes, there are difficulties with English but we work with many foreigners of different origins and their ability to write English as their second language far exceeds that of the average native English speaker. Mistakes can always be overlooked, as can "corrections" by spellcheckers, but there isn't really much of an excuse for sloppiness.

On Fab we are essentially writing our own advertisements so surely people would make an effort to show themselves at their best.

Genuinely doesn't bother me. Strikes me as lazy, relaxed and easy more than anything. Those are just traits that people can and do switch on and off based on their surroundings/environment.

Someone misspelling a word is hardly the biggest crime in the world. Far more serious things to be put off by in my opinion

i do not mind how people type their words, as long as i can read them, and its very easy if using a phone to mis type a word or use the incorrect gram, and to be honest i pitty and have no contact in those that think its their god given right to belittle and correct other adults

how people spell and write out their profile on here usually has no correlation to how well (or not) they can hold a conversation in the real world ...as long as its received pronunciation and not text speak talk stlyeee it's all good with me...

and I often find the worse the profile the more intelligent the owner of said profile

English is nothing compared to French in terms of difficulty. As a speaker of 5.5 very unrelated languages, I think I can say that( with a bit of clout).

After a bit of boasting, let's tackle the question: txt spk, misspelling, sub oxford grammar and the like count for nothing if all I want is a bit of friendship, banter and NSA.

If, however, I find such deficiencies in a formal environment or an advertisement and so on, well; I simply think twice and look closer.

No because we all make mistakes hence myself missing english not English though in my defence that's the predictive text on my phone. However, if a whole sentence is incorrect it doesn't exactly draw me to them.

As I said in my original post I myself aren't perfect at spelling but when I was at school (awaiting jokes about the dinosaur age),I was taught to try and make as few mistakes as possible. (Sending this hoping it is all correct!)

I am not a great speller. Im not dyslexic but i cant spell well and my punctuation isnt good either. I have to use my speak to text on my phone sometimes as im embarrassed of people judging.

I hate being corrected. I might not be good at writing a message but i can hold a conversation.

Also i use my phone to get on here and its a habbit to put wud instead of would etc.

So i dont judge when people send messages to me who cant spell

I wouldn't usually correct anyone's spelling or punctuation or grammar on a site like this (although I would notice) - but I once had a HORRENDOUS vile message telling me exactly what they'd do to me - really horrible. Now normally I'd just delete and block. ..but I couldn’t resist. I sent a one line reply - "its doesn't have an apostrophe in this context".

Got a stream of invective, but it made me chuckle instead of fume ; )

Well there is the problem with text! I think you will find I explained I'm not perfect either but I will give you and example of what I mean.

I am not a great speller. Im not dyslexic but i cant spell well and my punctuation isnt good either. I have to use my speak to text on my phone sometimes as im embarrassed of people judging.

I hate being corrected. I might not be good at writing a message but i can hold a conversation.

Also i use my phone to get on here and its a habbit to put wud instead of would etc.

So i dont judge when people send messages to me who cant spell "

"I know I'm going to get a thrashing here for being the grammar police but I am never going to meet someone who can't even spell basic words.

A big part of attraction for me is conversation so if I read bad grammar I find it a turn off immediately. Sorry before anyone gets really offended just giving my view x"

I make written mistakes here, usually if tired or the correction technology kicks in, without my awareness - or the results of both.

I have some flexibility with others as I usually won't know their circumstances, nor be hypocritical.

I'm glad for the occasional spelling error, as some are amusing too.

if your predjudcise against peeps spelling and gram , i think what else do you judge others on, so i have no dealings with small minded petty folk
