This evening on the radio I was listening to a piece about a private company operateing in brighton who may go a head with a service where they can Issue you with a on the spot fine of £75 to people who discard their litter in public, or people who allow their dogs to foul and don,t bother cleaning it up, and also those who use graffiti where ever it suits them, the private company Involved in this project will be useing body cams to record evidence of the offenders in action the costs over a year will need to be monitored as any money made from the fines will not be fed back to the local economy like the council but back to the company there is discussion in hand to see how fair it is and how effective it is in operation, its said compared to europe generally we are in parts the dirty man of europe (or is that dirty old man of europe.. )

If their is something I detest its seeing people just discarding their rubbish in the street or anywhere else they can (along with cigarette stubs) If the costs are fare I,m all for this and it might catch on across the country who knows.. it was mentioned on the radio that we seem to have a cultural problem where litter is concerned here.. the journalist gave a run down of the rubbish he saw on the beach and it was disgusting what he saw, afterwards he asked peoples views in the street and they were mixed about the Idea but overall if the costs were ok thought it was a good Idea, some thought the fine was steep I myself think £40/£50 was sufficent but everything else I was for..

What are peoples views here there was one mention from someone that there were hardly any waste bins about to put your rubbish in I would have thought personally you could hang on to your empty crisp packets or toffee wrappers, empty bottles/cans till a bin was handy, it was just something that was drilled into me from a young age to dispose of your litter properly in a bin.

Don't get me started on dog shit I'm on dog shit watch cause someone let their dog shit in our street and didn't clean it up.

It happened again last week right in the middle of the pavement. I saw it on my back from the shop at night I put a thing on Facebook anyway I decided to clean it up the next morning went out and it had gone

There's loads of bins here, sometimes they don't get emptied regular enough as the rubbish is falling out of them (especially near schools). This towns not too bad for rubbish or dog shit.

There's been a good dog poo campaign going on in this town for years now where you can report any dog owner to the council for not picking up poo (i'm guessing cameras round here film it as proof of who to fine also).

I did make a site about (read taking the piss out of) my town about 10 years ago lol, and one page it was a competition where you could win a big prize for reporting any dog poo you found if it looked like a celebrity or the owner looked like one and the entry address was the councils official email address. I like to think i influenced the reporting of poo thing.

Erm yeah anyway, pick up your mess and that, no need to leave it everywhere.

somewhere in the sticks

I live in a country lane…its not even a village & every week one of us (there's only about 8 of us) can fill a bag full of litter that motorists have thoughtlessly thrown out of their car windows when driving past!

We have so little traffic that I usually conclude its a deliberate attempt to spoil a very picturesque area

I'm afraid its gone beyond carelessness.

To avoid sounding like a total misery…I was about to pick up a plastic bottle that I'd noticed in the lane today, when I saw the little boy that lives here pick it up on his way back from school to put in his bin…I think he's about 7…awwww bless

I hate litter!! Absolutely boils my piss when people drop stuff...especially adults who don't tell their children.... I go ballastic at my kids if they drop anything.

My cousin left a drinks cup on the wall (she's 21) and I flipped...totally unacceptable...

How hard is it to put your crap in the bin??

Also, dog shit!!

WHY PICK IT UP IN A BAG JUST TO HANG IT IN A TREE!!!!

Well here we have the council that look into dog fouling and rely on people giveing them the Info like diamond smiles does on such offenders, its always dark when such acts happen we have signs up and markings on the ground warning people to clear it up, I presume this private company will be out and about during the normal working day and night time, but the only way to make any head way with this problem is to be out there, unfortuneately the council is not out there enough to make a bigger enough Impact and there are no other alternatives.

We have council operated "enviromental officers" or their more common names "butt nazi's" and "litter gestapo". They hang round in shop doorways, or follow smokers around, pen and pad in hand, ready to issue a 75 pound fines. They won't allow people to pick up their litter once dropped, out comes the pad and fine issued. It's nothing to do with prevention and keeping the place clean, they'd employ roadsweepers to do that like other countries do if it were, it's just more revenue collection.

I carry a tiny jam jar in my bag for my smokes if there's no bin. There is no excuse for litter. None.

If there's no bin then take it home with you & dispose of it there, dog poop bags included, don't hang the bloody things on tree branches!!

You can park in a disabled bay or double yellow lines for 24 hours and get a £35 fine

Dropping litter doesn't seem to be almost in the same scale of seriousness of crime

I actually contacted one of my local secondary schools the other day over litter /their pupils. The little sods were dropping it everywhere .I got told by the headteacher there's nothing they can do ...my reply why not teach them not to and while at it look before walking out .was told it's the parents problem not the schools .

On what authority could they do that.

Individuals do not have the right or power to fine other individuals.

If the company is not legally licenced or authourised to take such action then they are simply muggers demanding money.

Don't get me wrong I detest litter louts but two wrongs do not make a right

My little job is dog walking, was out yesterday and actually took a picture of a hanging bag of dog shit.... I'm sure it does more harm to the environment to leave it in a plastic bag than bury it in mud if you've forgot poo bags???
