So over Easter it transpires I have a week to myself. A wonderful fab friend has suggested I took a small break and went somewhere. His suggestions included Bath and Edinburgh.

What other suggestions to the fabulous people on here have as to where I could go and visit?

Depends on how far you want to travel. Cornwalls coastline can be breathtaking - get to my fave UK beach at Bedruthan Steps at half tide and it's spectacular!

Or for a short city break how's about Historic Warwick for the castle then not far along the road is Stratford upon Avon so two nice cities in striking distance of each other.

Failing that, I hear Bishops Stortford is nice at this time of year

Why not?

They are cheap, safe ( safer than most large cities in UK). Nice food and wine, great art and culture, museums ( if you like that sort of thing ) The fabulous and bizarre Gaudi architecture in Barcelona, for instance. Or just wander round Montmartre in Paris.....

It's not like you are going to a war zone, or somewhere more dangerous like Cairo, Kinshasa, or Afghanistan.

Most hotels and tourist places speak English, and most of the locals can get by;

Dead cheap courtesy of Easyjet...

Central

East Anglia is varied, you could spend time in Cambridge and also the fens. Travel a little further to the coast, with some lovely quiet spots.

Stoke on Trent is a great base too. Edge of the Peak District, best people in the country, access to west midlands, Cheshire and Manchester clubs.

I'm a Cambridge girl and grew up there and the fen areas. Peak district sounds interesting though, never been there.

Matlock just down the road from me is nice if you're into countryside and hills
