Elderly parents

Hi is any body looking after elderly sick parents and finding there is not a lot of help out there .

They was hardly any help 20 years ago when looking after elderly sick parents.

As I helped my mother at the time look after her mother, we took shifts in turn to get some rest and go out.

its not an easy job to do.

I help my mum (72),care for my dad (82),as he's disabled and hell of a lot wrong with him.I do it round work ,went self employed so easier.

Looked onto carers (I use to be one).but it's expensive if have to pay ,they can't get help .also social worker and Dr both said mum can manage as I'm around to help .my sister lives nearby doesn't help .

My parents feel bad as they feel their stopping me doing stuff as helping them .I just feel I'd be a shit person if didn't help and also its a thank you for putting up with me when younger as I was a complete bitch. Debs

My Dad is a very independent 90 year old and my Brother and I finally convinced him to have the red panic button installed. He walks with a stick and has heart problems but no one from the social services/nhs keep a check on him. Good job my Brother and I keep a regular eye on him!

My mum is elderly and doing ok. She has a neighbour do her garden for her as she tries not to put on us. My father-in-law has parkinsons and has carer's four times a day, has a wrist and neck lifeline but it's still a concern as the carers are four hourly and 15 minute visits. Inbetween visits anything could happen

Just brought my mum home from hospital, after a heart attack. They would not let her home until they had put carers in place for her, for up to 6 weeks. This is on the Nhs. If she needs care after that, we will have to pay for this. She has had fantastic care in hospital and her GP has dropped in today. I think after that, the nhs fails our elderly relatives, somewhat.

My father-in-law had a number of falls resulting in hospital stay then he had the same free care and now pays carers extortionate amount of money. The NHS does fail them

My dad had his 2nd stroke a week ago and my mum is end stage COPD and is very ill in hospital ,it's so dam hard and stressful x
