Research the combi boiler, there are good and bad ones out there, you're looking at around 1000 quid though, could be a lot more but not much less.

There's websites now which allow you to post a job and get quotes.

The tradespeople and firms have to pay to send you a quote, so you only get genuine quotes.

I saved thousands using these sites getting a couple of big jobs done, including a new boiler.

You can easily get a baxi duotec + flue kit for less than £800 comes with a 7 year warranty.

If youre buying valiant then the price will be around double.

Baxi also do a 10 year warranty on the platinums.

on the road to nowhere in particular

Just had an ideal logic fitted, the boiler on its own cost around £600. It is worth paying a little extra for a Worcester Bosch if you can. You are looking at £500 up for an independent engineer to fit and double that for British Gas or Servowarm to fit.

With a few extras mine came in at £1400 in total.

True but you couldnt get it fitted for £800 notes.. Does the OP already have a combi and if so,what make/model/whats up with it?

A good Worcester or valiant for an average size house (approx 32kW) is approximately £1000 add to that your bit n bobs another 150, labour....depends on where in the country you are, up north 350 n with that you'd get 7year manufacturer warranty and your gas safe certificate, it's only a day job but down south I know it can go up to £700

someone i know had normal boiler and tank , paid 1700 all in and it was a worcester, even if you get a good plumber who isnt gas registered, the boiler guarantee is void, as this has to signed etc by a gas reg plumber

I thought it was illegal for it to be connected ( to the gas) by anyone other than a registered gas fitter?

And your house insurance would be voided?

I'm sure I heard about a government grant scheme where you can get money off if you have an old boiler replaced with a modern energy efficient one? Not sure if the scheme is still running though?
