To highlight it's somebody elses fuckup (and show how clever they are themselves)

London / Herts

short for "sic erat scriptum". It's placed to indicate that something quoted has been done so verbatim. Someone might have written elsewhere

"I haven't got nothing to say"

That sentence includes a double negative that the quoter (BBC news, for instance) wouldn't write themselves. So to clarify, they put "sic" in.

It's easier to put two fingers down one's throat or suck on something... Better forget it.

"To highlight it's somebody elses fuckup (and show how clever they are themselves)"

Is this why? Why at the end of a word not a sentence then?

It just highlights an exact quote even where there's an error in what was written. It's a Latin abbreviation, not sure what for though!

Dunno without seeing the word.

no,its as has been already stated, its an indicator of a direct quote, often one with a spelling error in it.

Don't ask me , ask pooch . He did look jolly exasperated when he finished his explanation, just patted me on the head , gave me a jelly baby and sent me to my basket

I always say it's a poor day when I don't learn something....ok maybe I'm starting from a low starting point - I'll get that in before someone else does

I always thought (sic) stood for spelling intentionally crap. I learn something new every day on here.

on the road to nowhere in particular

[sic] is to quote someone who has made a spelling mistake.

Saturday 3pm kick of football thread [sic] would be a prime example.
