"Not everyone who says they have ocd, has ocd, they're just neat freaks." I suspect this is true. Especially those who say 'Oh I'm a little OCD about xxxxx" Anyone who thinks it's just about cleaning is sadly mistaken.

"Luckily I am the opposite: I live in a happy state of vaguely controlled chaos. I have a freind who drives me mad because she is a compulsive list-maker. She has lists of lists. And a master list of the list of lists. And another list of the amendments to the master list. And is completely unable to do anything unless it is on one of her lists. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Pmsl poor girl. I'm the same with food I have lists of what meals I'm gunna eat n i work the lists too to bottom I've got so many I know what I'm eating every evening from now untill 2057. "Someone very close to me has extreme OCD. I get annoyed when a lot of people say they have it because they like their towels lined up or wash their hands more than most. That is nothing compared to what my family member and those close to him go through. His hands are always bleeding from having been scrubbed constantly. Can't have visitors to the house for fear of them bringing the germs in. Can't even put his finger in his mouth without worrying about there being germs from his saliva that will multiply and then poison him. Can't share keyboards, seats etc in work (yes, he still manages to work and is very good at it as he is so obsessive about details). Can't use public loos, freaks about eating out, can't shake hands to greet people, can't put on or take off own shoes if they need to be touched, only recently managed to be able to put on own socks. Fucking nightmare to live in" Ooh, forgot inability to lock doors (someone else has to do it or he'd be up all night checking and never leave the house), and contact checking of gas and electrical appliances in case they burn house down. Sure there are a million more I have forgotten ![]()

Fucking nightmare to live in ![]() Unfortunately, it does happen with depression. A close friend of mine suffers with it and because it isn't a physical issue, they have been subject to very snide comments like "oh get over yourself" or "just snap out of it." It can be very hurtful and doesn't help them with their coping mechanisms or recovery from a low period.

"As already mentioned OCD isn't just having to do things a certain amount of times or cleaning just because you've got in the habit. People with true OCD have a mental health concern and they are plagued by horrible and scary thoughts if they don't do things a certain way. Like depression, it is sometimes used as an off the cuff remark without it actually being an actual problem..How many of us say 'oh I'm a bit depressed' but just mean we feel a bit down and are not clinically depressed! I feel for people who suffer any mental health condition ![]() Yes I suffer from OCD, I have to push hard to fight it down from time to time, and still check my door excessively whenever I leave the house, part of my mind tells me I didn't REALLY check if it was locked, or I just imagined I locked it, so it's hard for me to be satisfied before I leave, I've even come back after making it to the end of the street just to make sure I definitely locked the door. So yes, as you say, many people claim OCD willy nilly, not realising what a distressing problem it can be.

"It's toilet door handles that's a worry. Public door handles are a nightmare. I can see the germs crawling all over them. " All toilet door handles will have germs, infact any surface that's touched regular by different people will carry germs But as an adult surely you know germs are part of every day life and our bodies can cope with them? What I don't get is how can somebody who can't even touch a toilet door without worrying about germs meets a stranger for sex and fiddle about in their nether regions? Do you not worry about how close to the toilet seat its been? ![]()

"It's toilet door handles that's a worry. Public door handles are a nightmare. I can see the germs crawling all over them. " What I don't get is why every single public loo seems to have a push door to get in and a pull door to get out, forcing you to touch it just after you have washed your hands. Surely it's more hygienic to have it the other way?
