Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

I can't see how it will work but... Will the threat of prosecution make people think twice before creating a fake profile?

They're not suggesting prosecuting people for creating fake profiles though. The guidance is on prosecuting when fake profiles are used in various malicious ways.

If people realised how easy it can be to track (some) online activity, law enforcement taking it more seriously and the CPS prosecuting could be a deterrent. It depends how it's managed.

That seems more like an extension of existing malicious falsehood/slander/ libel law.

Creating a false online persona with malicious intent using the credentials and photogenic likeness of an unconsenting / unwitring party. Makes perfect sense tbh.

There is the vaguer fourth category of causing anxiety. The number of threads that get het about fakes on here might be considered anxious.

Someone i know has already had their fb profile copied and it was to make a nasty profile about them, saying they were on drugs and calling them a crap mum. This was few years ago and the person who made it got prosecuted, idk what the new laws are?

Far too many think they're beyond the law / untouchable online. They say and do the most vile, upsetting things under the guise of "entertainment".

There need's to be clear, unambiguous laws that give Victims legal recourse beyond refute and place accountability firmly on the shoulders of malicious online offenders.

Wow, that's a serious claim. In what way are these people "fake" and what evidence do you have to support your accusation?

I have made my reports and do not have to be judged by the locals..that person knows I know and the mods do nothing. End

If someone has a problem with another they should keep it private. The forum mods ban for "airing dirty laundry".

Anyway, back to the OP question. Yes. The laws are much need and long overdue .

"the plot thickens "

Shit stir... :p.

As everyone seems veried in the thread it's probably just a personal grievance being aired under the guise of a thread topic contribution.

Not worth pursuing vendetta's on this, just block...move on.

I think the ones that create a Facebook/Twitter profile, pretending to be a specific person and do a lot of embarrassing shit in order to humiliate the person should be prosecuted, as that could be constituted as slander or harrassment or whatever, but the far more common profile faking consists of a lonely, unloved fat girl stealing Instagram pictures from a pretty girl and just pretending to be here to to be able to experience compliments. I think it's incredibly sad and should be met with sympathy, as opposed to prosecution.

Soon as you raise a issue you become the target...you know i hope the laws are changed to stop the disgusting creeps who play games with people's lives on forums,to many good folk have fallen pray in my view.

If keyboard warrior's wish to sob over this then grow a backbone and face off with people.

Hun, whoever it is, build a bridge and get over it. I personally glaze over upon seeing passive aggressive baiting forum posts , also it just makes the poster look foolish, petty and unappealing.

You're a grown ass person.. So presumably can predict and know full well what the effects of behaving certain ways will reep.
