In general settings look at storage and usage and then manage storage find out what is hogging space. Sounds like down thing getting downloaded automatically so music/podcasts?

Guessing it's an older iPhone or a 5c. If it is photos will quickly fill its memory. Videos shouldn't be stored in it either . Apps like Twitter and Facebook use lots of storage too . Also delete your messages . You would be surprised how much memory they take up if you have been having a conversation with anyone over a long period of time

Make sure to remove it from your phone completely. Your deleted stuff is usually just shoved into a deleted folder and is still taking up the same amount of phone memory space there.

"Tried to back it up last night but didn't work. If I restor to factory settings do I loose everything?"

Yes. But you can easily re-download most stuff like apps because of your apple account. Pics and that will be gone forever if not stored somewhere else, even to icloud should be fine.

Iv 1.2gb available and 42.6gb on iCloud. I delete my search history everyday for obvious reasons but would that take up space?

Sorry to ask the obvious - but have you 'deleted' everything you have 'deleted'!

Til you do that , it's just gone from one folder to another + still on disk

"Iv 1.2gb available and 42.6gb on iCloud. I delete my search history everyday for obvious reasons but would that take up space? "

History shouldn't take up much and i've never had to clear mine.

I reckon pics and videos are the worst culprits and even though you delete them they will be in a folder on your phone. Have you gone to photos, looked in albums and seen if they're in the deleted folder? They'll be taking up memory while in there.

If they aren't then go to Settings, General, Usage, Manage storage and see what's taking up all the room. Whatsapp has eaten 5.2MB of mine...

If you remove that you can still get your conversations back as they're backed up in a drive.

You just wanting the space to update? Pain in the arse having no room to do that tbh, apple should sort it out really.

MegaByte (MB) 1024 kilobytes (KB)

GigaByte (GB) 1024 megabytes (MB)

Yeah you're right about sizes.

London and France

Delete whatssapp messages ( especially if there are pictures in it)

If you have deleted pictures; they are probably in the " deleted pictures folder" so they are still there; empty your deleted pictures folder .

Do you use email on the phone?

Delete unnecessary emails; hobtobtrash or deleted golfer and delete them from there:

Empty junk folder .

Delete histories

Go to settings: manage storage .

Find the apps that have the most storage:

Delete them if you don't need them.

Do you have individual pictures for your contacts ? If do, remove them.

Do a hard reset ( it doesn't delete any data or settings)

You do that by holding the power button ( one on the top) and the round button under the screen together; that switches off the phone, keep holding them down until the apple logo comes back up again .

The phone will restart ( it will have cleared error messages etc)

When you do this, the phone will be locked, do make sure you know your PINs before you go, as you will need to enter them to unlock the phone , and the SIM.

The hard reset also works when the iPhone freezes ( which it does occasionally)

It won't lose data, unlike a "factory reset" but it will clear unwanted junk and " non deleted" deletes.

Check out "iPhone hard resets" on Google .

Sometimes an iPhone gives a message, but doesn't cancel the message when you have solved the issue:

When you take photos; beware the " HDR" burst photo system: it takes 10 pictures, and stores them all: if you are using it, go to the photos you want to keep; check if it has 10 copies; choose the best one and delete the other 9.

"Deleted all text messages but still only 1.2gb available raging "

Must admit, when I have a gig free - that's plenty for me.

So to answer your earlier question , there's a folder in 'photos ' called 'deleted' or something.

Select all and permanently delete.

As for what's taking up space - apps take some obviously , the rest will be messages /mails or pics/vids.

Basically emails/text do not take much space- you're talking kbytes , or max 1 or 2 meg per message.

Images nowadays start about 1mb- good colour image probably 5meg max.

Videos take up a shit load of space - 30-50meg per video, if not more.

As for apps, just depends .

My whatsapp currently using 200 meg- so do the maths.

Ruffly speaking :

1000 kbs=1meg.

1000 meg=1gig.

So if you run multiple messaging apps , or like dodgy videos...

Need to start then. Last time I did that I had a whole lot saved up (1500+) and took me ages to delete one by one
