Have recently been suffering from this! Sunday night I slept from 10pm till 5.30am and the went back to sleep until the alarm went off at 7am. I felt fantastic and got so much done but it seems it was a one off

Anyone else suffer? I have no trouble falling to sleep it's just the waking up and not being able to get back to sleep! I actually feel like crying I'm so tired and so much to do today!

I have this problem all the time. Do you watch TV or use your phone right before bed?

Good point - the link between blue light waves and sleep disruption is clear and strong. Emitted by tv, phones, computers and lighting, blue light stops melatonin production.

Melatonin is a hormone produced to initiate and maintain sleep, with levels rising in the evening and night. You can get light filters that block it or glasses too. F.lux is a great free app for PC's and phones, which limits blue light.

Turn brightness down too, especially for tech items close to your face, which will have blue light that's straight into your eyes.

Dim home lighting in the evening too.

OP, I have suffered this for my whole life. I find that if I force myself, and I mean force, to stay awake and actively thinking until midnight I can often manage a straight four-five hours. It is basically a complete arse of a condition and my heart goes out to you. HHx

I've never really had a problem sleeping - I was always able to fall asleep for ages at any time.

But lately, over the past few weeks, I have been having such a hard time sleeping. Last night wasn't too bad, but overall it is getting debilitating. I'm trying to change a few bad habits I have formed but I'm not sure if that will really fix my problem

A good hammering helps you sleep

I have suffered from insomnia in the past and that was before the days of mobile phones/tablets/kindles etc...

Now I average about 5 hours a night and every 2 or 3 weeks I get 1 night where I sleep 9 hours...

It's always better to sleep for a prolonged amount of time than having the odd hour here and there as that makes you feel like crap all day

The Dr gave me some sleeping tablets but I try not to take them as I dont want to become dependant on them. The night I slept good I hadn't taken them.

I agree if I try to stay awake till 11.30ish I get a much better sleep but it's so hard when I'm literally so tired I can't keep my eyes open and usually fall asleep about 9! I'm going to try and stay awake till later tonight! I've got a busyish day so it should keep me awake..I hope thanks everyone and feel for those that are having the same problems! Oh and if I could get a good hammering I'm sure it would lol but I'm struggling to even get a non abusive message haha x
