....food! I didnt want to hijack the current Proud of being British thread so started this based on the fry up comment from one of the posters.

Whats your local delicacy or traditional recipe (include your version if you like)

Its stottie cakes here for me - once risen flat bread also known as 'yesty cyeks' with pease pudden and home cooked ham and pickled beetroot yummie!!!!

Well, if it's real traditional British food, it has to be based around the tikka misala, pilau rice, naan bread & poppadoms!

mmm yes I love the curry traditions brought back from India. My grandad could cook a mean curry from what he learned when he was a soldier out there.

Is that on the Walworth Road?

I Like Manze's because it is still so traditional with it's decor.

The south london ones are nearly all gone now. Peckham and walworth road the only old ones left. some newer ones but there's something missing.

so the can will suffice

I should have attached a health warning to this thread... I think its given me a serious case of the munchies with a craving for most of the stuff you mentioned.

What is lardy cake please? and I thought that liquor was a really thin parsley sauce? You can keep the eels with the pie and mash though.

If there was a vote the scottish fayre sounds so delicious and tempting...

If its Summer (remember that?) then a bbq with loads of salad.

In winter roast lamb or beef, rare, with lots of roasties which have to be crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, and homemade yorkies with lots of thick, luscoius gravy mmmmmmmm!
