Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

It depends what the geekiness is about but as a general rule I find people who are passionate about anything more attractive the those without any interests.

You can be geeky about any subject - if you're passionate about something you're geeky.

In my case it's the scifi/fantasy geek that's in me and the people I'm attracted to.

I do have the ability to find the geek in any room

Dude no offence, but with a chest and abs like yours I can't see much geek in you. Now I know that thanks to marvel anyone can claim geekdom. But I was the fat geeky kid at school getting the shit kicked out of me by guys that look like you for reading comics then copied my work in science class. We used comics to get away from the fact that in real life we weren't fit or attractive or good at sports and forget girls, being a geek was like female bug spray.

Wearing Batman underwear and watching a few movies does not make you a geek. But telling me how many Robins there have been and which is you favourite might.

This does not a geek maketh.

If you read the comics and watch the films you'll be like "why is Thor the comic relief?"

Being a geek isn't like putting on a new jacket.

So what your implying just because I also have an interest in the gym and fitness that automatically makes me a big headed bully jock, sorry but I've not always looked this way until the last 6/7 years of hard progress, completely nothing to what I used to look like during my school years, Ive always been a big fan of comic books since a young age and with all these big super hero movies coming out in the last 15 years or so it's understandable why you may think I've just joined hype train, and no I couldn't name you how many Robins there have been because I've been brought up mainly loving Marvel but it doesn't mean I don't respect the likes of DC, Vertigo, Dark Horse and other publishers to artists like Todd Macfarlane, Bob Kane, Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, Tim Bradstreet, John Remita Sr+Jr and James O'Barr.

One of the very few times I am very happy to be eating humble pie.

You understand that to a lot of us this stuff is more important than anything. It is literally a religion to some of us, True believers only. And yes we can be very defensive about it but years of having to (sometime literally) defend our right to read comics can make you a little stand offish about the new breed of poozers.

Congratulations on the transformation into a Greek god. You should teach the rest of us how to do it while still reading comics.

Love geeks.

Big geek myself.

Massive reader of Vertigo titles. Sandman, Preacher, Y:TLM, etc...

Also lots of Dark Horse titles - Sin City, 300 etc.

I'm a LRPer, which is probably the geekiest thing ever. Lol.

Also a huge board gamer, but all the European style ones that no one has ever heard of. Lol. Dixit, Smallworld, Lords Of Waterdeep, etc etc.

Also a bit of Xbox (mostly indie games + the AC series), a bit of cosplay, lots and lots of internet, and a general maths and science and puzzles geek.

Yup... Many geeks feel that because they were so bullied and oppressed for their hobby, that they are allowed to keep it insular now.

But many don't realise that when they do that they're doing to others exactly what was done to them.

I agree that you can be an "anything" geek.

OMG HH, that's so awesome! Many of my friends are also history geeks (because LRP and reenactment have a big crossover) and I'm constantly in awe of them. Lol.

For about 6 years I was involved in an interactive historical exhibition for school trips based in the Tudors. We taught them about court life, weapons and armory, food (peacocks and marchpane), and music. It was awesome.

Talking about the big bang theory, while it's a guilty pleasure of mine, it really doesn't show geeks in a good light. The role of penny is a substitute for the audience, we're not supposed to understand these socially awkward guys (and from the beginning they all had their problems interacting with people with leonard being closest to "normal").

The aim of that show is to laugh at the geeks, not with them, and didn't we get laughed at enough growing up?

If you want to check out at show where geekdom is embraced and celebrated check out "community" and in particular the character of Abed, a guy with asperger's who only relates to the world in pop culture references.

I had no interest in sports growing up. I played on my commodore 64 (and then amiga) while reading transformers and spiderman comics, watched star trek TNG and figuring out how tv's and vcr's worked. then as an awkward teen i got into music cos i thought it would help me score with girls (it only kinda helped) leaving most of that geekdom behind for rock and metal.

Being a geek is cool nowadays and I couldn't be happier. I just wish i was a little younger so i could date all the cute geeky gamer girls.

Oh and if ever anyone wants to chat about the space race, let me know. I'm also a nasa moon missions geek.

I'm also into maths and science puzzles as well as logic problems.

I like TBBT because I identify with the geeks rather than Penny. I know people like every one of the characters, (though not as exaggerated as in the show, obviously, since "norms" wouldn't "get" regular geeks, so they need to be over-the-top).

We may be meant to laugh at the geeks but they're actually pretty content to do their own thing most of the time and they are in an environment in which they excel.

As a geek who is equally content to do my own thing and sod what's "cool", I enjoy it.

Yeah the Big Bang Theory is fucking trash. It just pokes fun at geeks and then writes in a couple of lazy reference based jokes... See video for example.

IMO, shows like The IT Crowd are much better, and Silicon Valley perfectly captures what it means to be a nerd (well a techie) in the 21st century.

I don't think there's a person who can honestly say they are not a geek these days, the highest grossing movies each year for the past 15 years at least have been sci-fi, superhero, fantasy films. Even if those aren't your thing, if you're incredibly passionate about anything thats part of popular culture then arguably you're a geek.

I kind of wish it was less mainstream, because then we'd have less soulless, boring adaptations of otherwise great original material. However the two attempts at Deadpool have demonstrated that fan reaction does make a difference, and that relatively lesser known IP's can succeed without any intervention from meddling producers.

... I guess what I'm trying to say is...

Bring on Squirrel Girl and Justice League Dark!
