Wanting what we can't have....

Jump to newest

By (user no longer on site) OP

I've found throughout my adult life, that if a guy is really into me - I can take or leave him.

The minute a guy isn't readily available - I want him!

There must be some subconscious reasoning behind this. Why can't I go for the one that's easy to catch?

I'm sure I'm not the only one and it must work with both sexes.

Haha that is so true. Think it is probably true of men too. Although maybe women are attracted to bad boys a bit more. We hope we can change them! Then if we do we don't want them anymore!

For me, I think I just notice it more with guys that I can't have. I don't think their availability decides how much I want them, but if I know they aren't likely to meet me then I notice it more. If that makes sense...

I used to be like that but would turn it inward. As in, if he doesn't want me then what's wrong with me? I could obsess over it for days/weeks/months when I was younger. I don't know when I stopped doing that but I have a few suspicions as to why.

I've had it but mostly when I was much younger. I'm perhaps a bit too carefree now and look around. There's always more.

You don't want him, you want what he turns into when he's aroused. Personally I don't know if I could shag a green giant

Something about the guy's indifference which makes him appear more confident = more interesting, more appealing.

Conversely, those that chase and "beg" sometimes sound desparate - not confident = not appealing.

I rather wait for ages and find one who seems interesting.

Hunter/Gatherer instincts or something in our childhoods that make us want to sabotage our own potential happiness?

If I can't have something I put it out of my mind. No point wasting time thinking about something I'm not going to get.

Hunting probably has something to do with it and the danger of sabotage possibly adds to the excitement? Perverse, I know... but possibly not far from the truth.

I want lots of things I can't have.

And sometimes even when I could have them I'll self-sabotage and fuck it all up for myself.

Me? Fucked up? *sigh*
