I've been spending the last two days creating maps showing the distribution of seabirds around Wales, and I've got them floating around in my head

Guillemots, Stormy Petrels and, of course, Shags to name but a few

So let's here it for your favourite birds, be it garden, wild or sea

Two of my favourites have to be the Goldeneye and the Ruddy Duck

"Which piece of software did you use to make this out of interest?"

qGIS - it's a FOSS geographic information system.

That and using other FOSS to create a Web mapping interface

I need it just to create some maps related to work... I've heard of qgis, would say it's fairly easy to use for a beginner?

It's free for a start

And pretty intuitive, but then I have been using proprietary software of this type for 20 years

Owls of all kinds. There was a Little Owl where I used to live that perched on a fence post next to the road. It was there the same time every day and was utterly adorable
