Marvel, without a doubt. As a kid I'd started with DC but found the characters too fanciful. Marvel's characters are much more 3- dimensional with 'real' lives and 'real' problems, and the storylines tend to be fuller and richer overall.

Has to be marvel all the way, but DC does have batman and have always liked the idea of "The dark knight" liked the spin Christian Bale put on the character, I was I think of the same opinion as most people when Ben aflick was cast as the new one but after seeing the trailers I think it will be good, can't be any worse than George clooney or val kilmer

It's not even close unless you're American.

Let's look at it objectively:

- X-men - cool

At least by offering the hottest characters it becomes more relevant , and we would go with poison ivy , cat woman , and iron man

I am a huge fan of both, but i do find DC movies with the exception of the christopher Nolan batmans tend too fall way short on the character development front, Superman in particular seems too always be too cheesy, of course he is overpowered , i will admit that i haven't seen the current incarnation of superman as the previous reboot killed his appeal to me. I am dreading Ben Afleck as Batman after what he did too Daredevil though.

I don't know, I think Affleck will be good as Batman, He looks good in the trailers that I've seen. I know daredevil was awful but he is a good actor.

I'm a bit of both, I love Marvel for X-men, I loved the comics when I was younger. DC has Batman. DC may just edge it because I like the villains more.

I get what you're saying about Superman but I highly recommend Man Of Steel, you may be pleasantly surprised.

I actually liked Affleck's Daredevil and from what I've seen of the trailers his depiction of Batman is very good.

I agree Affleck is generally a very good actor, so maybe it was the script he had too work with, or he couldn't get into the meat of the character, but i found his performance as well as everything about that movie terrible.

Your right about the villains, I think Marvel comics have too many vanilla villains, where as DC in terms of Batman and to a lesser extent Superman tend too have more believable and realistic antagonists.

But they do tend too have characters with less cool names like Aquaman and the Flash and the Green Arrow etc all seem more childish than Marvels, so maybe that is what bugs me more than the development of the characters.

Superman may be the most recognised but that's simply because he's been depicted in media since the 50s. I dont think he's the most popular character in comic fans by a very long chalk. I personally cant stand superman and the only time I read him was when they killed him

Personally I much prefer marvel, the heroes are much more conflicted and human. Thematically marvel is much more grounded and 'real', the xmen are based around civil rights and multicultural acceptance. Spiderman is constantly grappling with the two sides of himself as are the villains for him.

I just feel there are more levels to marvel

I don't actually read many contemporary Marvel or DC titles at all, but only really follow their moving media.

But yeah, my fave comics house is Vertigo. I think 90% of my favourite titles have come out of there - Sandman, Y: The Last Man, Preacher, We3, Pride of Baghdad, Fables, Stardust, + more I've forgotten probably. Lol.

But then, yeah, Dark Horse has the sexy ones like Sin City and Hellboy and 300 (not to mention the Firefly/ Serenity titles )

Also love Image Comics for things like Saga, The Wicked + The Divine, and the old Spawn/ The Darkness/ Witchblade titles (McFarlane and Silvestri sure know how to draw beautiful people. )

Firefly was a tv series and i heard they are making a new movie for it, i would have preferred a new series though.

The comics are always better as they have an on going platform too develop characters and stories where as movies have too work within the constraints of making it a good watch and sometimes tend too either squash in and rush character development or skip it all together which can leave the characters we know and love looking rather one dimensional.

I have too agree that outside of Marvel and DC most people are unaware of other publications and franchises, but at least the success of DC and Marvel allows for film studios too explore alternatives, too find their next big franchise.

The comics are made from the series, not the other way round.

Yeah, there's no movie. "

I have never read the comics, so i assumed it the movie was a comic adaptation, i got to the firefly party fairly late on. Its good too see it works the other way round, do you recommend the comic?

Ahh that sucks, probably just sucked in by another rumour, heard it was Netflix but it was only one article i read, i could have just been punked.

Nah, the comics came out way after. ^__^

I personally love the comics because of the way it incorporates the Chinese. Also tells some really good stories that the series didn't have a chance to.

I have a massive soft spot for it though, I do the live action role-playing game of it, and the board game.

I'm a bit obsessed...

You can't take the sky from me.

"Lucifer, Powers, Preacher.

I also hear that Y the last man is being made into a series. It'll probably suck.

Also RASL and DMZ (one of my faves),

Yeah, I'll believe Preacher and Y when I see them. Lol "

Preacher's actually being made by amc and written by Seth rogan.

Apparently it's shit (no duh).
