Went to the main Dealer for two electric window switches yesterday, they only had one. The reason why they only had one is because they only have one in stock at a time ffs

The only expense really is the injectors at about £120 each(new), copper seals are about £2 for 4 plus they'll need coding. Worst case is two hours labour and a slide hammer if they've been leaking for a while. I've done plenty on my drive while waiting for my dinner to cook!

Essex.

My dad's Bmax auto judders going round corners. The Ford dealer he bought it from says that it's within Ford tolerances...

It turns out that the Ford auto box (powershift) uses an electronically controlled clutch not a torque converter.

These clutches can go in as little as 5k miles and Ford were having trouble supplying the parts due to high demand...

Looks like I will be paying the dealer tomorrow and calling BS on their tolerance story...

First sign of trouble with car

Call the aa or Rac and say you're worried it will break down

They carry a lot of parts on the van and can diagnose pretty well and have been known to fix things like sensors etc on the road side if your close to a garage that sells them

Ring round garages for free quotes and or estimates

In southampton we have my purple garage and formula one auto centres .

Both of these wil give you free quotes which includes a read of the obd codes

Of course having a code reader is a good start and you should work out how to use it ( as long as you can use a telephone you will be ok )

If you have a Vauxhall don't even worry about an reader

Put foot on brake and throttle at same time switch on ignition codes is flashes of the light that looks like a crashed helicopter . 10 flashes is zero

There are lots of things that can be done on a car yourself with ease and using forums and Haynes manuals .

Had the o/s cv joint go last month, and now in for the clutch today.

Another £360

It's not the price of the clutch, but the labour as you have to drop the subframe to do the job. Would be twice that at a Toyota dealers

Is it a diesel by any chance?

That quote would likely be including the dual mass flywheel, garages love to sting people with that one. 90% of then time they don't need changing though, in fact I've known some garages charge for the part and not actually fit it.

I thought they stopped using Pug engines a while back because of the numerous reliability issues.

There was a time when the French made the best diesel engines in the world. Since things got a little technical and required electricity they've seriously fallen behind.

near the sounds of the wimborne quarter jack!

Just because you have an old vehicle it doesn`t mean the parts will be cheap!

I have a 1950 Ferguson tractor with an aftermarket engine kit fitted. So far, £250 for an engine overhaul kit which comes with half of the gaskets unsuitable for the engine. £100 for the correct gaskets to complete. £150 for a water pump, £150 for an oil pump, £40 for a timing chain, £120 for the main bearing shells (they are quite specific for this engine and very difficult to scource). Then there`s the injection pump and injectors to overhaul and the cost of regrinding the crankshaft and drawing in the cylinder liners! Then there`s brakes, steering, clutch, tyres (minimum of £600 for a set of four!) and I`ve yet to even consider a paint job! Thing this one will keep it`s natural "platina"

Quite true but in my mind the fault also lays with the sales men. If somebody walks in wanting a diesel but only drive it 10 miles a day they should be given better advice the diesel is not for them

Our cars never go in for work because it always ends up costing stupid amounts, we just work together and fix it ourselves!

That way we have more money to spend on more cars

Our Peugeot 207 had a timing chain tensioner fail. We lost nearly all of the engine oil. Now face between 1500 and 2500 for an engine rebuild.
