Figures for weekend deaths he used to "justify" his argument against doctors are fake according to Labour. There simply are NOT more deaths over the weekend.

This lying toe rag has to go....or doctors will be leaving the NHS in droves.....!

You can interpret figures in many ways. I don't support his stance but I doubt he's lying.

Can't they launch an enquiry into why his name has not been officially recognised as rhyming slang.

Because politicians never lie to justify their policies! It'd be interesting to see what the outcome of an independent enquiry uncovered.

Would rather whole Troy front bench went but yeah, Hunt is a knobhead. They all are for the idea of selling off the NHS

Where would they go?

That's the weakness of their negotiating position,

Of course he's a liar- he's a politician.

An independent inquiry will cost bloody loads of dosh too! Throwing more money away instead of spending it on the NHS......

And I'm sure the last Labour governments never used statistics to suit their ends.

Statistics are simply that and are open to interpretation in many ways.

Some will say that climate change is/ isn't happening; or that it's possible the moon is made of wensleydale cheese

Just a little question where will they go to ???? To Germany more hours less pay, to Switzerland more hours and higher taxes, to Italy less hours, less pay and double jobs. Oh the answer is Down under - of course they have been waiting to take in 160'000 doctors (as if) Records in Aussie and New Zealand show together total 3'000 job openings for doctors...

Sorry - but ever thought that some people work 2 / 3 jobs to get over the rounds? Doctors okay work maybe 40-50 hours a week but they have got "free education" from the state for £200'000-300'000!

In German speaking countries they have to repay that over 15 years and here ?? ASK that !

Absolutely right there of cause! The NHS is under funded and is in verge of collapse but this government will make it worse than it is now over the coming years

So just on the off chance the figures actually do support Mr Gove claims will an apology be offered by the Labour party and anyone posting in this thread who is bent on tearing him a new arse based on speculation rather than actual proof...

I wonder...... pfft

It was a stupid argument anyway. The real justification is the shameful waste of expensive equipment. Theatres and other space at the weekends

isn't that like me not apologising for burning your house down but wanting an apology from you for letting me play with matches?

Mr Hunt originally claimed that there were 6,000 more deaths at the weekend in the NHS. That was based on an unpublished and non peer reviewed report.

A subsequently published report has upped the figure to 11,000 but does not provide conclusions as to why there is this "weekend effect."

He may well be a (H)unt but he may also be right to be concerned about the discrepancy. I am not saying he has been a great negotiator by any means. There was a telling interview quite recently in which he confessed that it is impossible to be a popular Health Minister. There may well be a degree of truth in that.

Halifax

Doctors I know are really ragged off with him.

And not just for the recent contretemps, but for all the backdoor privatisation he's overseeing(initiated by New 'Labour', admittedly).

Absolutely right, because they've said exactly that thousands of times and it's written into their manifesto, yes?
