At work yesterday, and I guy pulls up, apparently his company has gone bump so desperately getting rid of surplus stock, anyway, managed to get a new mattress that would normally retail for 999.99 (so the tag said) for 120.00, bargain? Or have I just bought a blag product?

Anyone else made a purchase this way? To be honest it does look legit.

It'll be fine... it's only a thousand pound fine for handling stolen goods for personal use, so you won't have paid much over the odds...

Got scammed for stereo speakers in the 90s. Bloody things never worked. Then found it was a scam when the same bloke pulled me over a year later to sell me the same speakers. Had to get police involved which didn't work coz I kept seeing in the guy.

The official receiver, administrator, liquidator or whoever is dealing with the company 'going bump' don't tend to sell the assets off the back of a van. Sounds like he was spinning you a line and you gell for it

It's a pretty well known scam. They try it on my business park all the time usually say they are renovating a premier inn nearby and have a surplus.

We must have the newest premier inn as its get renovated nearly every week according to their frequent visits.

They do a similar thing with watches.

There was a programme on tv recently about this scam. They are not new mattresses. I only read the prog synopsis I didn't watch it.

Ew i saw something like that on fb, they peeled the mattress cover off and it was a manky stained mattress underneath.

Dunno if you got ripped off or not OP, but i got my NASA quality foam mattress from argos for £80, so i got 2.

Might be legit, might not be. Can the internet not help find out a bit more?

What makes me chuckle is that rather than say it is stolen goods he has try to come up with a 'genuine' story. The reality is that if the company has gone bump, it remains the asset of the company, and therefore it is not his to sell in a personal capacity. Not sure the police would bother getting involved but even with his sob story the matress was not his to sell.

That's just you buying something off the gypsies, they come round here the last Friday of the month with the memory foam mattresses, all in the plastic with the divans and the headboard can choose suede or leather and in various colours, double or super king.
