Any musicans around?

I've been banging my head against a brick wall for some time trying to get a band off the ground. Been advertising on websites but never get so much as a nibble. Any other musicans, particularly in London, have the same problem?

I'd be up for the idea distance recording if it meant I could at least get a demo finished but, don't really know recoding and mixing processes.

Naybe you are looking in the wrong place.

Dont know about London but I expect it is the same as the NW.

If you are looking to fill empty slots or to form a band the best place to find other musicians are in the music shops. Most of the ones I used to frequent had notice boards you could place an add. Of course if your looking to form a string quartet your more likely to have success in a shop that caters for classical music and instruments than in a jass rock guitar shop.

Had the same issue, though there's a few websites around too for it (joinmyband.com is one, I seem to remember).

I don't know what you play but I know in one case, a guitarist recorded a rough demo of a handful of songs he'd written and uploaded them to a couple of sites and found band members quite quick, as they all knew what they were getting into as opposed to "I like this band and this band lets see if any of us can make music".

There's an open mic thing near me that attracts a few local musicians and people in general, I'd considered going to one, playing a song or two (guitar only, i'm no singer, but the songs aren't too simple to be boring on their own) after saying to everyone "i'm looking to join or start a band, if any of this sounds good to you, give me a poke afterwards".

Not sure this is right place...My past [and sort of ongoing] pro music career is down to having good contacts and taking the opportunities...i presume that there are still paces to advertise for musicians? Like the old days in NME...ooo that takes me back!

Good luck in whatever you do

Oh, I could've just looked at your pictures and saw the guitar. Oops!

Funnily enough though it's similar to here where guys heavily outnumber women and have a harder time finding anyone interested - guitarists seem to outnumber good drummers and bassists by a fair number, so the same goes for finding a decent band to be in, heh. I don't know if "pick up a bass" is an option, heh :]

Try the Jam nights, a lot of musos frequent them to meet and socialise with other musos, plus you get to see who's any good.

Around 75% of my dep book is populated with people I've met at Jam nights.

I've done distance recording before. A friend of mine in Nebraska and I recorded a version of Van Halen's Hot For Teacher and I mixed and mastered it at home using Cubase. I soon discovered that I'm shit at mixing vocals

I've been in loads of bands over the years and have found that local jam/plug n play nights are great for finding other musicians.
