Faking it works

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

Research from Cardiff Uni shows that faking being happy (putting on the smile at least) tricks your brain into being happier.

Further, people who have botox on their smile lines leaves people feeling more depressed whereas botox on frown lines improves their mood.

What else can you fake for good effects?

I used to be really shy. Until i realised that nobody knows if you're shy or not, so if you pretend not to be shy no-one would know you're pretending. Eventually i stopped being shy.

Was for me, thanks. Pushing yourself to do/be something you're afraid of helps, there's not really anything to be scared of once you've done it and no bad repercussions.

Doesn't read like they're faking it. Well not unless they are testing if I'll go for it

I'll remember that one.

It may not work for brain surgery but for most other things it should hold up.

Fake it.. Until you.. Make it.. probably works in instances of mild, non clinical cases of depression.

I'd always suggest anyone suffering from depression seeks advice and assistance from a GP. People trivialise and stigmatise the illness and it's sufferers. It may not have overtly apparent physical manifestation; its effects and symptoms are torturous and life limiting for those who battle with it, none the less.

Thanks, yes it is a horrible illness: I know first hand. This isn't meant to trivialise depression in any way. I have been practicing smile therapy for about six years and it helps at times, but not always.

In the meantime, I know that tomorrow morning I will fake being excited about getting up and going in to work.

Keep well.

It helps in those situations too
