Never had any issues with Holiday Inn Express or Ibis

None I wouldn't stay in as long as it was clean

If in doubt, Tripadvisor can be a handy monitor but is open to abuse and should only ever be used as a guide not a guarantee

Never had a problem with premier Inn. Days Inn are quite good because in some they let your pets stay with you

We would never use Travelodge but find Premier Inn very good with fairly comfy beds and clean rooms and we love the breakfast. We stay in them frequently as we go to lots of away football games and music events.

I've always liked Premier Inn, never fancied Travelodge. Stayed in an Ibis in Cardiff, wouldn't use again as very basic and as we came in on the evening there were bouncers checking everyone's name and room number - so not much good if you were hoping to get lucky

Bliley, that's a bit keen to check details at door. premier usually good as some have automated check-in and no clerk after certain time.

And pay on booking not on arrival (unless it's changed?) which ain't good if you're booking months in advance for an event.

Someone got hit by a train and i got delayed going and sat on a stopped train forever on the way home. Was a long day

Holiday Inn Express have a lot of good rates that are BB / Premier Inn offer meal deals.

Ibis are worth a look too.

Travelodge are filthy and uncomfortable.

Premier ( despite the Lenny Henry adverts) have terrible beds too, and most I have been to are also filthy.

If I need a cheap one I use ones from the Accorhotels chain ;

( depending on what I want, that's Mercure, Grand Mercure, Sofitel, Adaggio, Pullman, or at the cheap end, Ibis, Novotel, or at a push F1, but F1 are not very good .

If you sign up to the Accorhotels website, you get discount points, priority bookings, complimentary breakfasts, and cheaper rates than you can get on hotels.com or booking .com or any of those sites .

I am an Accor member but I do find there are massive quality differences across their brands that aren't always reflected in the price.

For example, in Southwark, withon 5 minutes walk of each other they have a Mercure, a Novotel and Ibis Styles.

There is rarely £20 a night difference between the 3 but the Novotel is a much, much better environment than the Mercure.

So whilst I agree their membership does offer good discounts and rates, there is also an element of 'what the market will stand' in their pricing as opposed to marked pricing differentials across their brands that represent the difference in quality and standard.

Adagio aparthotels are great though

I don't do chain hotels much anymore premier inn you generally get a lovely room but you can never get that low room rate ,stayed in a holidayinn express and that was lovely to and reasonable breakfast included but not good

If you're looking for somewhere to stay while working then make sure they have a reward scheme for a start. Also ask if they'll do discount if you block book a couple of weeks.

When I was working away I ended up getting a serviced apartment, some weren't bad prices and a little more comfy, plus you're not eating out all the time.

It does depend on how you are using the hotel, for work some facilities can come in handy e.g. gym, pool etc. as evenings can be a drag if working away. but if travelling all you want is a clean bed.

Often when working away for a few weeks I will book the easy chain type hotel for the first week, then spend my evenings finding a quirky B&B for the rest of the time, usually much quirkier and more fun.

I've found travelodge cheapest if booked in advance, like £40 for Manchester, London prices really vary.

Premier inn is better quality possibly, never stayed at Ibis (any of the variants), though mostly I often use websites for hotels like kayak, last minute, late rooms etc and usually find s fair deal for a good place.

In London we tend to stay at the Village ?Hotel in Elstree, park behind Sainsburys down the road for £5 a day, it's next to the underground. There's akdo the Hampton by Hilton in Luton right next to the train station. I mention these because they're often as cheap as the Premier Inns and excellent value for money, check them out on that booking site

Holiday Inn express include free hot breakfast.

I like them and tend to use that chain of many brands.

I use Travelodge less than I used to and prefer Premier inn and ibis. Holiday Inn can be similarly priced to express too but breakfast not included in all rates.

Not a fan of travelodge, have always found the mattresses unbelievably thin and uncomfortable. Premier Inn have always been decent for me.

Oh, and someone referred to bouncers on the door checking details - that's pretty standard for city centre hotel chains in the kind of places people go for stag and hen dos. I've experienced this loads of times on nights out, it's just so people aren't coming back from clubbing and having 5 people stay in a room meant for 2. So if you want extra people in your room just get them to come up before 10 or 11 when the bouncers start.

My last visit to Travelodge I found the bed to be comfortable,so comfortable in fact that we slept until 4.30pm the next day until housekeeping woke us up. The room was warm so the thinner duvet wasn't a problem.

We have stayed at a travelodge twice. Both times the room was dirty, the shower only worked if we held the tap on, the bed uncomfy and the food at breakfast was dreadful.

We have stayed at lots of premier inns and never had a problem with them.

Clean rooms, comfy beds, lovely shower and nice breakfast.

Days inn are often motel style where you open your bedroom door and you are outside. Very suitable for smokers and no worries about nosey receptionists

I've stayed at a lot of different Travelodges around the country and the majority have been really nice. I agree some are utterly horrible but most are great since they've done them up with new decor. Their new beds are brilliant.

usually just browse hotels or laterooms web site, viewing whats available, if booking any check a few reviews, as sometimes you can get a four or 5 star hotel for the price of what the travellodge premier in ibis ect.. is charging for the room.

Some of the locations are poor, service stations, no bar so no chance of company at night if having a drink, no food other than microwave in ones I've used in the past when desperate

We've stayed in a few different ones, including some non-chain ones.

Travelodge... a few great, most good, and a few terrible ones.

Mercure, very good.

Premier inn, ok.

Lately been getting some awesome deals for Hilton hotels, but now getting quite good at picking up deals.

You will find that a lot of the budget type hotels, especially in city centres, will have security on the door, so if you want to play, pick a hotel a bit further out lol!
