Does anyone know of any high street shops that sells corsets apart from Ann summers, preferably in the north east

primark ocasionaly have them M&S DEBENEMS IN THE WEDDING SECTION MAYBE SOME OF THE VERY HIGH FASHION CHAINS

Are you looking for fun fashion ones, or proper steel boned ones?

The latter you'll have difficulty finding a brick and mortar store for, but the former should be easier.

I'm not in the area, so can't make any recommendations, unfortunately.

But I know loads of online stores.

Corsets UK is one that's often very reasonably priced.

Do you want a real tightlacing corset or a fashion corset?

If you want a real tightlacing corset then go to FairyGothMother in London.

If you want a fashion corset, places tend to do them on and off depending on what's in fashion.

Loads on Amazon.. that's where I got mine from. And for less than a tenner too! Just carefully read the sizing charts!!

take a trip to Manchester to tib street and a shop called kiku

they have off the peg corsets ans corsetry and will do a fitting for you to check its right fit . or you can have a custom made fitted corset in your style and choice of materiel etc supurb little shop for vintage and corsetry

Im a corset lover, I've actually lost count of how many I own. I have one lovely one from Primark, the rest have been on line.

Depends what you're after to be honest. If you want a tight lacing steel boned PROPER corset you might find it hard on the high street but there are always goth markets to be found and it does well to try them on and get a feel for fit. Different types of corset pull you in differently and the position and number of bones will determine the shape it gives you.

If it's your first one, I'd recommend an under bust because they give you more freedom to breathe. Also get one with a front busk too cause you might want a quick escape and having corset that doesn't do up/undo at the front can be quite restrictive, not to mention hard to get on and off.

There are lots of places to buy them, they don't have to be an expensive purchase it just depends on the style and fabric you want.

Leatherotics is great online retailer and has an eBay shop too. I've recently purchased another new one from their eBay shop that was no longer on their website for under £30 , the previous full price was over double that so it's worth shopping around.

I've made myself a few in the past. Men's corsets aren't too different, except that they need to compress the body in slightly different places.

Anyone could make one, you just have to take it really, really slowly.

I do both. I prefer to make corsets using a machine for the structure with hand finishing. I think that the machine stitch is far stronger than my hand stitch, which is of course really important when you're making a tightlacing garment.

I know what you mean, my hand stitching just wouldn't be strong enough. Im currently looking for an inexpensive plain corset I can customise for display. I have an antique wasp waist mannequin but having difficulty finding an authentic corset of the same era so in the meantime I'm going to create something for her.
