Gutted any advice

dropped my iPhone 6 down the toilet tonight. Screen went funny it's now in a bowl of rice. Any advice

Leave it I the rice. Put it in your airing cupoard and don't try turning it on for 12 hours.

Worked for me.

you taken it to 'bits, like removed the battery and that so everything will dry quicker?

it should be ok, you'll have to not use it for a few days to make sure it's completely dry otherwise you might short it when you try to charge it.

My Samsung survived the washing machine but you have to let it dry completely.....and it had frazzled the battery so i had to get a new battery but it worked fine. Being extra cautious i took it apart and left it for a few days in rice in the airing cupboard.

Hahaha thanks for the wonderful advice and the not so wonderful advice!!!

I forgot to register it so it's not insured

I hate android

Can't afford a new one

And thanks I'll leave it for a few days and hope for the best. I'm gutted about my photos

It may be difficult if your phone is never out of your hand but go cold turkey and try and not switch it on for a day or two if you can cope.

If poss take the battery out and leave it open somewhere warm, as someone has said in a heated airing cupboard...also don't turn it back on AT AlL until you are sure it is completely dry inside not just outside. If you turn it back on it may well short-circuit.

you can still get your photos back if you want to, even if the phone dies. but you'll either need to pay someone to do it or buy additional stuff to do it yourself.

hope it dries out ok.

And as its an Iphone isnt the previous advice to remove battery, take off covers etc to improve drying process also not possible?

Most of the previous advice given is good, airing cupboard etc, you can also see if you can find some dessicant bags (often used in packing), then seal the phone in a bag with the dessicant bags, they will absorb the moisture and dry out the phone.

As for my flippant advice earlier, sorry (I just always see Iphones as overpriced and overhyped and mostly a marketing gimmick to make people pay 3x what they should), I have a motorola that cost about 25% of the latest Iphone and pretty much does the same job with very little functionality difference, possibly better in some areas, and its waterproof, though I have never felt the need to throw it down the pan to experiment in that way).

You dont get a manual with an iPhone. So if that is the case with other phones (which i dont know? ), chances are i wouldnt be able to even switch it on

It takes patience. Don't rush a slow drying out.

Check home insurance, if you didn't over-insure and have phone insurance too.

I always keep those gel desiccant sachets that come with new electrical gear - they're great too, as an add-on to rice.

Don't cook your rice afterwards.

you can take the battery out, it is glued in but only slightly and you shouldn't damage the battery removing it.

However providing you download/or synch your iphone and register with Icloud, your photos and contacts etc are available on whatever you use ie ipad, laptop etc

I did similar with Samsung galaxy and pissed on it got it straight out stripped it down hairdryer sent it off for repair but no ,dead lost everything ,water and phones don't mix x

Do you get free insurance through bank? If so, get it registered & claim next week . If not, get it insured & make a claim next week!! Or claim on house insurance.

Or go get a really cheap PAYG phone as a temporal measure & claim next month

Put it in rice, put it in the airing cupboard, then in the oven on a low heat for a hour and then soak in vinegar. Tie a bit of string to it and go and play conkers
