...Up on the Downs

Anyone know of a good free software for locking a folder of pictures on a PC? My computer crashed over the weekend and I suddenly thought if I ever had to take it away to be repaired I would DIE of embarrassment!

If you're handing it over to a nerd locking a folder will just make them more determined to have a good poke about

Move them to an external pendrive and password protect the contents. Any windows security measure such as password protection is easily enough over ridden .. A linix live DVD for example ..

yeah store them off the device. anyone can unlock your stuff on a device if they look for the code that locks it.

Keep them on a pen drive. You can get encrpted ones that you password protect and if the password is entered too many times incorrectly its wiped. I had one for work xx

Oh dear, seems pretty unanimous lol, though I don't have anything particularly bad on here......but the guy who came out today opened my recycling bin and the ONLY thing I could see out of all the files was a huge deleted cock haha!! Shan't make that mistake again, but I'd like to lock pics on here anyway. Looking at VeraCrypt - any views?

my advice dont bother you can lock them but you can still access them

as been said you want to store pics store them off your main system on a separate hard drive

I would only encrypt a hard drive with personal pics/vids on it

Trucrypt is a good suggestion, either on a separate memory stick or otherwise.

Who are you trying to hide them from?

If it's not from the government you may as well just throw them in a zip file with a password attached.

"TruCrypt is pretty good"

This. Create an encrypted container and put all your sensitive documents in it.

Good point - the software looked a bit complicated to me (I am far too impatient to reading long complicated instructions) and I mostly want to just take them out of obvious view, I have 5yrs onsite cover for my computer anyway.

There was a fairly simple 'no software required' method on youtube, I might look at that too. I'm lazy, I want something that's easy to get stuff on and off, but I could jut use a dedicated memory stick. I've never trusted them since I heard they often fail though.

Haha, yeah, that would be the simplest solution I am sure

memory sticks you get what you pay for some last ages some dont

I can vouch for corsair been using it for the last 5 years and its been formated often for installing operating systems from the usb stick

as goes for children just use a folder lock program

as goes for work pc or laptops store off the main system, either with a memory stick or an external hard drive.

both can fail but so can the main pc hard drive

anything that you delete can be brought back thats if the people are tech minded

I would suggest you get yourself an external hard-drive and save all your files to that.

Forgive me, I should have been clearer in what to do.

Go to EBay, do a search for 3.5 in USB external drive cases (will cost you less than £20). Buy!

Now buy a 3.5in heard drive, screw into case, attach power and data lead.

Plug into power and USB port.

Use your new F/G/H or whatever drive as backup for hard-drive and as default save for all document saves.

Its not hard or expensive to do.
