Where do you shop and why ??? and which is the best value.

My own personal preference is Asda simply put its the best value.....end off.

Mainly sainsburys, with bits from waitrose and fruit and veg from the market. Not sure about best value, I mainly go for what's the most convenient.

Aldi. Imo, it's the best value, their 38p bags for life are fab & I'm addicted to their giant two litre bottles of fresh tropical juice that are only 99p

Asda is where i shop, tesco i find dear, and cant do proper food shop at aldi/lidl without having to go to another supermarket to get stuff

Whichever shop is closest which is either Morrisons or the Co-op. I used to like Sainsbury but my local one closed. We use a butchers and a green grocers and buy everything else from the small independent shops or the Co-op.

I refuse to shop at Asda because it is owned by Wal-Mart.

Anywhere else is fine but we usually vary between Tesco and Morrison's

I do have to add once a month i do treat myself to a Marks and Sparks shop, the food is just divine but ??? oh so expensive.

Lidl - not too busy and no too big, I like the stuff and lots of attractive Europeans are in there

Morrisons - only for the bits I can't get in Lidl

Tesco - as little as possible. I like the scan as you shop but the staff are miserable and the shop is crap

Sainsbury is ok but too far for us

Asda as it's nearest and has a really good gluten & dairy free range.

Lidl for meat, fresh fruit and vege.

Depending on which part of town I am in I also use Sainsbury's & M&S.

I think a lot depends on how the individual store is run. I've been to some appalling Asdas and even worse Tescos at times.

Our Asda is pretty good

Aldi all the time now.

Outstanding value for money, meat is excellent, veg is ok. Fruit is fine.

Pretty much everything else is cracking value even their speyside single malt for under 20quid.

We are spending on average 20/30pounds a week less at aldi than asda and probably eating better than we ever have.

Only things we shop elsewhere for.

Heinz ketchup

Beans

Catfood

And porridge we get from Holland and Barrett.

Iceland, i get a small shop that lasts us weeks, frozen veg, meat and some other bits. The rest i buy from local businesses and the market.

Like the poster above I have to get my sauce elsewhere but the baked beans (white label) are lovely

It's better to shop around rather than be loyal to a particular shop. They all have pros / cons.

I've halved my shopping bill by going to lidl snd Aldi but it's true I have to go to another store too...usually Morrisons or coop as they're closest to get the rest of my stuff

Aldi's for us a weekly shop there roughly £36. A few weeks ago we went Tescos to get a few bits to top up nearly cost as much as a whole shop for a week.

Wouldn't buy from coop I remember their reduced shit was more expensive than supermarkets standard prices

My mom said that about her local in Birmingham.

We also met a lovely couple and had some obnoxious twats trying to be clever.

So two further experiences of rude staff at Tesco in different areas.

Is it part of the training problem?

On the flip side, the lovely lady in the Walsall branch went above and beyond the call of duty! She was fantastic. Having said this, most of the staff in the other supermarkets and shops in Walsall are lovely! There must be something in the Black Country air, as I've nothing but praise for their friendliness round here! Great people!!!

A little bit off topic but I wish Aldi and Lidl would do the same as they do in Germany, we're you keep your empty cans and bottles to push into a machine and it spits a ticket out for a reduction on your shopping...

All of our shopping is online now and originally I used to order from ASDA but they never seemed to bloody have anything.

When one of my orders of about £75 delivered only two items totalling £7 (despite me clicking that all items could be substituted), that was the final straw.

All shopping now comes from Tesco - And some of their delivery drivers are HAAAAWWWWTTTT!!!

I don't have a favourite shop as such, so its the one I'm passing or closest, so that's Iceland or Tesco usually.

As for one of the 'big' supermarkets being expensive, don't know how that can be, as they all do some sort of price promise.

Now we get to Aldi.....I must be the only person here to really dislike that shop. The staff have no time for customers, I understand the packing system they have BUT I don't need the stuff throwing at me when they have scanned them.

And the food, as good as brands...never

Their Weetabix...cardboard

biscuits..give me Mcvities any day,

washing powder, I use twice as much as Persil.

etc. etc.

I can't save much shopping there as the items just don't seem as good to me, so any comparisons are made against 'own label' items from the other supermarkets.

I'm very fond of Fortnum and Mason - espeically their hampers.

For ham , cheese or vegetables it has to be my local farmers market and for bread I use a small but remarkable artisan baker.

Co-op Can be expensive but when its your local store you learn to find what you need regularly and price wise I find bread and eggs reasonable in price especially when reduced, thee other week thou I struck lucky with eggs as now I buy packs of 10 in mixed sizes, but on this Occasion every egg to me looked not just large but extra large they were beautys tried again this week and they were mixed in size, but none of them the size of those large ones, even in the large size pks I,ve not seen them that size before, I could,nt resist takeing pictures of them on to fa**b**k, I,m hopeing the packing process slips up again for more big eggs I,ll be lucky but if not somebody else might be Instead, good luck to them.

Thing I don't understand is when I'm going round the shop, they've never ran out of anything I've been after, yet when I order online they're always giving a substitute.

Tesco used to be great, huge variety of goods, their cheese section was brilliant, now it's not even half the size it used to be, quality has dropped as has choice. I use Aldi and Asda. Co op has always been expensive and the service in the local was appalling, it closed within months of Asda opening in the village.

Tesco is next to the station so if I'm on the train I go there. If I'm on my bike and just want a few bits the local independent shop let's take my bike inside so i go there. And sainsbury's is the nearest to my flat so I walk there for my large shops. Rarely buy more food than for a few days as I live alone it's not worth doing big weekly shops.

Almost all food shopping is convenience rather than store loyalty. I do head to discount stores fir toiletries and household goods to save money but when you are only feeding 1 I don't see the need to weigh up which supermarkets offer best value

I too work for them and hardly use my discount as it is cheaper elsewhere. Interesting to read how rude some staff are in other locations as I know in my store, it's the one thing we are very proud of- and that's politeness.

I usually shop Iceland and pick up 1 or 2 things from Tesco.
