Edinburgh

I was just thinking that sounds like an adventure... then got to the five year old!

Why don't you make a list of things you're likely to see on the way and get points for spotting them and make the points into a treat at the end of the journey?

(Says the woman with no kids making it sound jolly and simple!)

Good luck!

Oh Lord! Our kids were very well behaved as I'm sure is yours but six hours is a long time. Colouring books, ipad, food, I wish you loads and loads of luck and toilets nearby when you need them

on the road to nowhere in particular

Make sure you sit in the quiet carriage and when someone objects indignantly shout, "how can you possibly expect them to be quiet, they are only five!"

Happens all the time

Somewhere in North Norfolk

Give the child a sleeping tablet and transport them tucked into a wheeled holdall?
