Valentines day is so crap when you are single! It feels like the entire planet wants to rub it in your face! I lost count of the number of bouquets of red roses I saw today! Yes I know I am pathetic and indulging on a hefty helping of self pity!!!

I am a miserable jealous sow tonight! Is there any light at the end of this god forsaken hell? ?? Argh!!!!!!!

Can anyone give me a GOOD reason to be single on Valentine's weekend? ?

A world of my own

Even when I was married valentines day was just another day.

However I've always found it a bit depressing. I'm a hopeless romantic. While I know in reality I'm not going to be swept off my feet and have someone singing me love songs and laying rose petals on the bed.. It doesn't stop me wishing for it just once.

I'm in my 30s and have never even had a 'proper' date.

So I do empathise with you OP.

However I look forward to buying some half price flowers next week

I was in London today and I felt I couldn't go anywhere without being reminded of it everywhere I went....shops...restaurants. ....people walking around with cheesy red roses (not literally roses made of cheese...though I like the idea! Practical! )...but you know....you can't escape! Even the TV and radio is playing soppy stuff! I have already opened a bottle of wine! Drinking alone as friends with their hot lovers!!!! Grrrrrr. ......

Are you a failure in relationships or just came across the wrong peeps? Don't ever feel like bad for not being main strem... some of us are not pretending to be what we are not. Thats why we dont find matches easily: others turn out to not be what they appear. Be proud and hold a midle finger in each hand up and say "fuk'em, their loss!"

Oh come on. Really? I get that you may not feel the need to buy into the commercial thing but surely you don't think you shouldn't show someone you love them? I don't just mean on 14th February but all the time. .... if you are married /relationship then i think it's important to show you love your partner. Flowers don't show that of course. Fore ..it's when they go out of their way..

Stopping at the shop on the way home to buy some commercially grown red roses for a tenner and a cheap card is not showing someone you love them...

While it is lovely to know someone cares about yoy, I would rather they showed it in a spontaneous way rather than an organised day dictated by tradition. We have enough organised treats-Easter, Christmas, birthdays, anniversaries- so spontaneous means they were thinking of you, not just conforming.

That said, I got a funny card last year that must have made even the postman blush. Quite unexpected too and appreciated all the more for that.

When I was young I sent cards to my favourite man at the time. He never sent me one but someone else did.

My long term ex, despite his flaws, was always very good with Valentines.

Then I became single by choice. I've seen all the cards and flowers this week and there is a part of me that thinks oh darn no one loves me.

And then a massive part that remembers it is better to be single and happy than with someone just to get cards.

So I'd say it doesn't bother me. Then I got a card today and boy did it cheer me up

I was in London today and I felt I couldn't go anywhere without being reminded of it everywhere I went....shops...restaurants. ....people walking around with cheesy red roses (not literally roses made of cheese...though I like the idea! Practical! )...but you know....you can't escape! Even the TV and radio is playing soppy stuff! I have already opened a bottle of wine! Drinking alone as friends with their hot lovers!!!! Grrrrrr. ...... and how do you think people feel on mothers day when it's hyped up for months. Everyone walking round with flowers for their mum, restaurants full of!families with their mum. When their mum has passed away or father's day for those with out a father yet I never here those people complain

My mother has passed away..so i know ...from cancer so i know the heart ache of that

In all my single years, I've never really paid the slightest bit of attention to VD (excellent abbreviation - just stumbled on it).

I've ignored the pile of cards coming through my letter box (ok, there's never been any since about the year 1873), mocked the absurdity of it etc. it's just passed me by completely.

This year I'm bloody bereft. Like someone said, I just want to be part of the whole effing nonsense. What the bloody hell has happened to me. Well a gargantuam dose of unrequited love for someone is the main reason, I guess, but that's been around in previous years too (yeah, I know, get over it).

As part of a sick joke the God of love is playing on me, I have to go out later a buy an effing VD card for my mate. He's too ill to leave the house at the mo and has to have something for his wife when she's back from a trip away later.

Thanks for that, thanks a lot.

Never underestimate the futility, torture and moroseness of a lonely 40-something male .

Grrrrrr. ...... and how do you think people feel on mothers day when it's hyped up for months. Everyone walking round with flowers for their mum, restaurants full of!families with their mum. When their mum has passed away or father's day for those with out a father yet I never here those people complain

I agree.... I am not mum either lol! Shall I start on about that too lol? No seriously I get it. I know I shouldn't whinge. I am just feeling sorry for myself. No excuses really.

My Ice Castle! South Wales

Mr and some single vanilla fem friends are all going out for a meal tonight and then onto watch deadpool as we don't want to spend the evening alone not that any of us are bothered. Just thought it would be a nice idea to do something.
