So everyone keeps going on about downloading it. What can it actually do

It's just like any other messaging service, goes on your phone number, you'll be visible to anyone who has the app and your number.

I guess it's good for sending pics etc if you get charged for picture texts.

It's the same as any social app you can have conversation but based on telephone number send pics and vids see when people are online etc

That's it basically. It's nice and convenient I guess. You can also set up group chats with people as well.

Kik does not use your phone number but is based on username

But if I added someone from here and I'm happy to chat, but would that mean they would see when I'm online and would they see any of my normal business.

No they can only see what you chat to them about. Your business is yours.

They'll see when you were last online... not sure if you can switch that off or not.

I won't use it after a serious stalking incident last year. I still can't answer my phone unless I know the caller as he uses other numbers to try and contact me. No I can't change my number as it's used for business

No they can only see what you chat to them about. Your business is yours.

They'll see when you were last online... not sure if you can switch that off or not. "

There is a privacy setting where you can't see who was last on line and they can't see when you were last online. They can see if you're online at the same time though.

But but but...

It's linked to Facebook and so if you don't stop it doing it when you activate it, it will add your faceache contacts, plus ( unless you stop it doing it,) it will automatically add all your phone contacts ( and even send them an automatic text to tell them you are on Whatssapp).

It was also criticized heavily for being extremely insecure and open to hacking; whether that has improved now it's part of faceache, I don't know...

I have chatted to people off this site on watsapp it just means they have your number.They can see if you have read messages and when you are typing a message.

Its a good app but I mainly use it in my day to day life.

I've found it a pain with chatting to some from here, they know when your online and get alerted as soon as you've read their message, I know similar to here but much more instant.

I can be a bit hassley if you're not wanting to chat to them as much!

I've now stopped using it for here!

Kik is more discrete as it's username based. But you do get the occasional spam.

I've used it with people from here. If I give someone my number, establishing someone isn't a psycho is something that happened ages ago.

I agree though - you're probably better off using something anonymous if you aren't adding someone you consider a friend.

I like it for talking to my friends in the US and other countries. Texts are too expensive for international conversations.

For people from here, I much prefer kik. I don't give my phone number out to people I'm meeting from here for sex.

I like WhatsApp and Kik, those are the 2 apps I use to chat to people on here. WhatsApp for established friends who I have already met as they then have phone number.

Kik for new contacts who I've not swapped phone numbers with.

Noone bothered to tell me the most important thing when you say you can chat to people you mean voice chat like a talking text message. I thought it ment chat as in text chat not voice chat.

yes I'm aware of that my Facebook has privacy settings and I don't add people from here to Facebook and I won't WhatsApp from here either

thing is I bloody hard texting cause I spell all the words outlong hand and I couldn't understand why people would text talk using the phone

But now realisation has dawned and I may never have to send another text again
