Govt is spending too much because people are living longer.

Do you know how much the govt is spending in the Falkland Islands?

Isn't it British though the Falklands ? Or did I miss something.

Apparently down South we live a year longer than up North. Wonder where the dividing line is and who analyses all these stats.

The second result yielded this...

"The Falklands is largely self-financing, apart from the costs of the military base, which are paid by the UK taxpayer."

http://www.theguardian.com/news/datablog/2013/jan/03/falkland-islands-data-charts

If people don't want to pay for the defence of a British Overseas Territory then don't, give up the claim to it.

I did. The Falklands are largely self-financing. The only cost to the government is the military base. It seems that the Falklands pay us about £4m a year. The base costs about £75m per year. I am sure the OP would have enlightened us. I am not sure about the oil revenues.

on the road to nowhere in particular

What about Gibraltar? Should we give that back to the Spanish? Oh, hold on, Gibraltar was ours before the country of Spain existed. Same goes for the Falkland Islands. Argentina didn't exist as a sovereign state until long after we had staked out claim to them. In a nutshell, they have never belonged to Argentina.

Have a good look at the post below and tell me if you like the sound of it:

''I did. The Falklands are largely self-financing. THE ONLY COST to the government is the military base. It seems that the Falklands pay US about £4m a year. The base costs about £75m per year. I am sure the OP would have enlightened us. I am not sure about the OIL REVENUES.''

Too often when negative history is being made people are either complicit, apathetic, complacent or shortsighted. When the fallouts start manifesting themselves a few generations down the line, there will be the usual protestations of 'I didnt do it, my forefathers did, get over it',no doubt.

OP, your intial post was about the money spent on the Falklands. I asked if you could tell me how much was spent. You couldn't. I could. It seems we benefit financially.

Is this now some strange slavery sort of thread? What "negative history" (whatever that is) is being made? I am all confuddled here, I am afraid.

Easy - the Spanish are refusing to return or relinquish their enclaves in North Africa.

When Spain recognized the independence of Spanish Morocco in 1956, Ceuta and the other plazas de soberanía remained under Spanish rule. Spain considered them integral parts of the Spanish state, but Morocco has disputed this point.

Yet Spain is refusing to recognise that Gibraltar is British sovereign territory, established under similar circumstances, under treaties with Spain and Portugal.

Su they refuse to give up their enclaves, yet demand Britain does.

You know, if you squeeze 10 penguins, you get a lot of penguin oil. Still not sure why it is important (just like I am unsure what the OP is trying to say).

By the way, penguin oil is rancid. Sorry to offend any penguins here.
