Well this newspaper is calling it a day and moving to an online version only.

First of quite a few I imagine...i still get a paper most days but £1.80 for guardian is quite prohibitive and free online for most articles... shame but i think there are more to follow

Printed newspapers have become an anachronism, for sure. But is a similar version online not also anachronistic? With so many truly independent news sources available, isn't it time to consign the mainstream press to the dustbin of history?

Nah, I still like to wallow in a Sunday from time to time.

Even though I have news feeds for tech news and tax / business news I still like a paper in the morning even if it just to read the sports news

It was only a matter of time before a newspaper was going to go like that

manchester & NI

I see they've slightly changed their web platform.

The old platform was very slow and dated.

They need to amp it up to get visitors coming back.

The 2 biggest read online papers are The Daily Mail and The Guardian, they have good capacity for reader comments and reader interaction, which makes them popular.

I love The Guardians online platform, they've really embraced it with their live feeds and breaking news streams.

"

So did I, until about a year ago when I had a rare Sunday off work and thought 'I know! It's raining, so I can't go climbing. What did I used to like to do of a wet Sunday morning?'

For old time's sake I trotted down the papershop and bought my first Slobserver in five years. Never in the field of class war has one person paid so much for such a bag of shit 'journalism' slotted in between advertising copy. Vomit-making. never again!!

Make a better choice next time. Never been an Observer fan.

Where are all these truly independent sources mentioned above?! Most are just recycled news with ill informed gossip and bias!
