He was a friend of the family. It's weird how his life ended, it was all very quick. I was dancing with him a decade ago

She is, and so was he. Hopefully all this publicity helps with legalising euthanasia. It must be difficult to grieve publicly.

I've just watched the programme and I'm a pretty together person but I have just sobbed my heart out. All I could think was what a handsome, energetic, loving, fun person he was. I know he made the right decision but this programme absoultly broke my heart....I'm still crying now never has a programme had such a profound effect on me.

I don't know if I'd be that brave. I'd like to think I would be able as I never want to be a burden to my family if I got incapacitated and I know I'd hate to be trapped in my own body......

I've watched programmes on this before. The way this programme was made and put together convinces me even more that assisted dying should be everyone's right, that no one should have to travel to foreign climes to die. Simon was obviously extremely intelligent, articulate and deeply loved by a wide array of people. It was obvious that, much as the decision was unquestionably right for him, he still struggled with the effect his choice had on those he loved. The tribute he paid to his wife in the last few moments of his life was the most profound thing I'll ever hear. RIP Mr Binner.

Wonderful fun man. How lovely to stay in touch with college friends throughout your life. Very sad situation. Just hope all those friends help to support his wife through the coming months.

Very much so and loosing a daughter to lung cancer was I think what made his wife have such a strong opinion

Back where I belong

Not everybody is brave enough or able to make that choice or get the opportunity. Having watched a loved one bravely battle a terminal illness, the choice was taken away from him when he left it too late and was no longer mentally or physically able to end his own life. His last weeks were spent in a drug induced coma and all we could was watch and wait.

Not something I would ever want someone else to go through. Even now, 8 years later, those last memories were not happy ones and still reduce me to tears. I was torn between wishing it was all over and he was no longer sufferingfor and not wanting him to go.
