little house on the praire

I'm only starting this thread because I can't find the last charity thread but part of the discussion was small charities and doing more hands on.

And approaching people individually.

I was already doing a little bit of that but its been playing on my mind as I've been really angry with one of the charities I support, I would of just stopped donating but its something I really wanted to support.

Anyway I've now swapped to a small charity doing exactly the same thing.

I can phone up any time to see how the animals are doing, I can go up anytime, I can click on the website and if there is an animal I want to see how it's getting on I can ring and ask. I can find out anything I want also they don't even have a scheme for paying direct debits they rely on donations and bequests and one shop that they have. So I will just go up every six months with my donation knowing exactly where its going.

All though this is an animal charity I will be changing others over. This is just the one I was really angry with.

I was so flipping angry soxy and I don't get and angry very often.

Now I'm planning on sending them a properly worded email explaining why I won't be supporting them anymore

I think that would be the right thing too do..... and I hope for all the right reasons it has the desired effect,,,

As someone who volunteers on overseas projects I know how important public perception can be for a charity when it's attempting to raise vital funds to help those in need...

that's why I'm working out what to put I don't want it to come across as "throwing my toys out the pram" they might not take any notice of me, but if they start to get a few the same they might

I'm sure your efforts won't be wasted,,,,, sometimes we all need a prod in the ribs and that can only come from well intended feedback...

Somewhere in North Norfolk

I've switched from supporting Cancer Research to supporting a small local cancer charity because I wasn't impressed with aspects of how Cancer Research is run.

By supporting the local charity, I can be sure that more of my donations go to actually helping the people that need it.
