Which is correct: "hanged" or "hung" ?

hanged is used only when referring to the hanging of a person by the neck with the intention of killing him or her.

In all other cases, hung is the past tense of hang.

Examples:

Do a search on (reputable) newspaper articles when they report on or refer to hangings involving people. You'll find they always use hanged, never hung. That's because hanged is correct and hung isn't.

6 inches is average

7 inches is bigger than average and therefore hung. For me to use clothing sizes

4 is XS

5 is S

6 is M

7 is L

8 is XL

9 is XXL

10 is XXXL

Anything large or bigger is hung.
