Today as I was coming home from shopping we passed a cot that was lying in the road, clearly it had been hit by a vehicle. I dropped my shopping off and walked back and the cat still in the road. I wrapped him up in a towel and walked 20 mins to the nearest vets. Poor little thing was dead. But makes me so angry that the person who hit it never had the decency to take it to the vets or even to get out the car and put him on the grass verge. I still think if you hit any domesticated pet it should be reported

By law you have to report to the police if you are the driver of a car which hits a dog as well as a goat, horse, cattle, ass, mule, sheep and pig, not cats though I don't think.

Unfortunately saw a deer get knocked down the other day down a very busy b road near aldershot, unable to stop as literally nowhere to stop. The woman had stopped with hazard lights on.

Poor thing was rolling around on the floor clearly in lot's of pain.

She had kid's in the car crying their eyes out. She was in bit's also.

The truck behind her driver had got out and was kneeling down with the deer.

I'll be honest I have no stomach for such things and feel awful if I even hit a bird.

Cat or dog I would be very upset.

Ultimately I would stop tho.

Rip kitty

Cat lover's here.

I'd take care of any animal that I knowingly hit and think all should. And worried pet owners deserve to find their lost loved one as well as possible - not stranded to be mangled.

I understand there is currently a petition going around so that the council are forced to check for microchips before disposing of bodies. Makes sense since most other places do (such as vets etc when a dead cat is found)

Obviously everyone knows I love cats but I wouldn't see any animal laying helpless in the middle of the road and I don't know many that would. Whether that's going out your way to take it to the vets like the op kindly did or just putting it to the side if it had died.

Doesn't matter whether you have them or not its just something that comes natural to most people

Its not about whether you like cats or not. Its about having empathy. An animal has been killed in rather unpleasant circumstances and someone is likely to have lost a pet.

Aww bless him That's a good thing that you did, OP, I hope they can trace the owner.

If I'd hit something I couldn't leave it lying there. Hopefully it was someone who either didn't realise or, as someone said, it had actually been hit somewhere else; not just that the person was a heartless twat.

Also, I get that people hate cats, but why do they feel the need to proclaim it on threads about them? I vehemently dislike dogs, but I probably wouldn't blunder into a thread about Marley and Me to proclaim that they're all stinky bitey little tossers who shit on the pavement.

I will try and get a pictures with one of my pussies later. Will let you know if it works!

Joking aside if you hit any animal I think that you should do your best to find them or take them to the vet. I remember being 8 years old and some arse ran over one of our dogs and drove off. I cried all the way home from school, and I still remember it 28 years later.

I have hit a cat before, at low speed. I spent ages looking for it but it had run off. If I had found it I would of taken it to the vet and potentially knocked round to find out who's cat it was (was about 100m from my house). It just about being a decent human being and being responsible.

how would you know that, we know the car owner left the cat but not how many passed it by.

When I still let one of my cats out she got a thorn in her face you would not believe the lengths people went to contact me. I'm surprised it didn't make it to the local news the fuss people made.

So apart from a cat would you leave other animals lay there.

I squished a hedgehog & was mortified, especially as it nearly managed to make its way across a busy road, I swerved to miss a pot hole & hit him instead

I know you didn't do it for those things but isn't it nice that when you do something instinctively for being a caring person its appreciated.
