tap water

Been working out today and chatting to a friend and they are horrified that I fill my water bottles up from the tap and that I don't drink bottles water..

Apparently I'm on a slippery slope to death and blindness... However as I have always drank it I shall continue to so( unless I'm far from home as different areas make me poorly )

So do you drink it from the tap or am I really a cave woman as been suggested x

Honestly you would have thought I had told her I fill my water bowl up from a muddy puddle lol

I did laugh but then she is also not sure about the fact I grow some of my own fruit and veg.... And I would be safer getting it from the supermarket. For the same reason she won't buy from the small grocer either as apparently you don't Know where it came from.

I drink it straight from the tap at my Mums but when I moved into my flat, I filled the bath and it had this yellow tinge to it so I sent a sample to the waterboard and they analysed it. When I got to the bit about there being arsenic in it, I bought a filter jug.

Tap water for me too.

One friend used to bang on about fluoride in our tap water so only drank bottled water. I must admit a got a little kick from pointing out her bottled water contained chloride etc

I keep bottled water in to put in my bag when going out or to put up stairs when I have guests. Otherwise its council pop.

I do remember working in the pub when Perrier water started to be popular and we thought it was for posh people

Read somewhere that tap water is better than bottled. And eventually the water will react with the plastic bottle. Don't suppose there's a sell by date on them for nothing? And aren't they filled from a tap somewhere anyway, don't imagine there's a guy standing in a mountain stream somewhere filling them

We had an outbreak of cryptosporidium a few years back. I don't think anyone died, they just got the shits so no big deal

Someone mentioned about mountain water . Water that flows from the fells where i live is full of arsnic and has to be filtered properly, just be carefull when filling bottles up from rivers or streams

Fill a clear glass and leave it for a minute. If it clears from the bottom up, it is caused by tiny air-bubbles from high-pressure mains, and is safe. If it clears from the top down report it.

Richard Hammond did a docu a few years ago about water and bottled up some tap water and letting people test it and people were actually buying it from him saying it was nice! Other companies probably do this too

I used to work in the analytical industry and nearly all the water authorities were my customers. The equipment I worked on checked (amongst other things), you 'potable' (drinking) water for metals etc. Other equipment checked it for organics etc.

APART from when there are accidents(usually from human error), our water in this country is one of the finest in the world and far safer then most waters. People buying bottled water are often buying water that is in plastic which if it has been subjected to strong sunlight COULD leech plasticisers into the water. these can be carcinogenic.

A lot of bottled water is no better then tap water, but some areas do have 'brackish' tap water. If that is the case then filter it or buy bottled water.

I think the tap water in my area is excellent.

All this shite about drinking bottled water shows how effective they are at marketing.

Considering some of the water in bottles is shipped from abroad think of the environmental damage of the transportation.

You are drinking from a plastic bottle that may or not be recycled.

The standards for bottled water is lower than straight forward tap water.

A work mate of mine told me you MUST drink two litres of Bottled water a day. I asked him to show me where any health service recommened Bottled water, I am still waiting three years later on any scientific proof.

Nothing wrong with the odd bottle but I am happy with good old fashioned tap water !!!

Of course I drink from our taps, the water is generally of very high quality.

I'm disturbed that big companies have taken over water and hoodwinked people into buying it in bottles. Overpriced nonsense and robbery. Many of these companies are also taking it from drought stricken areas, leaving locals with even less of their natural resource - which should be their right : Such as in California. It's immoral.

Coca cola also sold Dasani bottled processed tap water, that was full of carcinogens, due to their processes. A lot of bottled water is just public tap water, so don't assume it's not coming from a public water plant.

If I was bothered I would process my own water. My family's spring source is still flowing and was great to swim in during heatwaves but I've always been happy with tap water.

They launched a 'new' bottled water brand called Dasana (or something named like that?!) 'Sourced and captured in Essex' c. £2 a 330 ml bottle.

Turns out is was nothing more than tap water, and they finally admitted it came from the mains supply...

In addition to water purification techniques and public health improvements, yes, we were also taught about failure mechanisms in steel, including plastic theory, in our university civil engineering course...

Coming from experience in plumbing, when fitting a new boiler, I'd get the water in the system down to within 10% of tap water quality. Usually around 10ppm on a TDS meter for around here.

Safe levels are considered under 500ppm and anything over 1000 really isn't for human consumption.

Using a home water purifier/filter, I'm presuming it's an RO filter? You must have quite high levels in the water in your area. If you're down at really low levels to start with I'd say a filter is pretty pointless.

My reply was going to the other post I quoted but it fits well here.

Where we live it's around 20ppm and the other post Bournemouth I think.... Was around 320 so a filter would be well worth it. But totally pointless for us to get one.

You can look it up pretty quickly for the water quality in your area online.

Plastic theory would support that claim to an extent regarding creating a hinge eat. But still doesn't explain two buildings collapsing at free fall rate. If the buildings had toppled and not collapsed in their own footprints I'd maybe support that claim. Then we would still be talking about tower 7!!!!

Also steel doesn't melt till over 2000f aviation fuel no longer exists after around 1700f. Plus we can tell from the BLACK smoke coming from the buildings that the fire was struggling and most likely wouldn't generate the heat required to damage the steel.

Depends where you live. Where am at is remote and the tap water is fresh as a daisy. I prefer ot to bottled water anyday

In addition to water purification techniques and public health improvements, yes, we were also taught about failure mechanisms in steel, including plastic theory, in our university civil engineering course...

Plastic theory would support that claim to an extent regarding creating a hinge eat. But still doesn't explain two buildings collapsing at free fall rate. If the buildings had toppled and not collapsed in their own footprints I'd maybe support that claim. Then we would still be talking about tower 7!!!!

Also steel doesn't melt till over 2000f aviation fuel no longer exists after around 1700f. Plus we can tell from the BLACK smoke coming from the buildings that the fire was struggling and most likely wouldn't generate the heat required to damage the steel.

Tap water ( in UK) is better quality water than bottled water; there are more controls on the quality of tap water than there are on bottled water.

A number of well known brands were tested and would have failed public water supply standards. Public tap water is tested daily; ( by law)

A water bottling plant is only required to test it's water production once a month. The water bottle you but may also be at least a month old.

In addition, you should not re-use old bottled water battles constantly; chemicals leach from the plastic into the water; you should buy a plastic water bottle, ( made for the purpose) and use that to fill from the tap.

Bottled water is a rip off anyway; you are paying silly money ; it is about 5 times more expensive than your home supply.

And unless it is named as coming from a particular source ( eg malvern water), it is just public water in a bottle anyway.

Bottled water is the biggest con trick and eco disaster ever visited on the British. What on earth did we do before it came along and the marketing men sold it to us? The UK has one of the safest most plentiful water supplies on the planet and yet people go buy unhealthy bottled water.

Worst of all the bottled water is often just that, tap water put into bottles !!!

Bottled water is actually worse for your health due to its mineral content and the leachate from plastic bottles.

The best thing to do is use tap water passed through a filter jug and stored in the fridge.

A part of it is imagery. If you are seen scurrying to work in the morning then to be uber professional, you have to be clutching either a bottle of water or a coffee.

No wonder evian is naive spelt backwards..

Apparently I'm on a slippery slope to death and blindness... However as I have always drank it I shall continue to so( unless I'm far from home as different areas make me poorly )

I drink water straight from the tap all the time. The water I wash my car with is filtered though!

Tap water is spot on, as long as you're taking it off the mains feed. If you're drinking it out of your bathroom tap or for that matter brushing your teeth with it, then that's the manky stuff that's been sitting about in the tank in your roofspace......if indeed that's the sort of system your house has.

Which is why we used to have red, blue and green taps, to differentiate between the cold water tank and the mains. I often wonder why we stopped doing that...'progress' I guess

I think the powdered water that's included in lifeboat rations should be made available in shops...

It's got a longer shelf life than any of those expensive bottled waters and it's much lighter to carry about...

Working in the fitted kitchen industry we sell many filter taps and find out the clients never change the filters.

Supermarket water can be couple years old before reaching the shelves the worst is the large bottles used in offices those can be three or more years old .

So you feed you're baby formula milk i bet you turn on the tap fill the kettle let it boil make the milk let it cool before feeding the infant its said 95% use tap water
