I love dogs, some dog owners need a swift swipe across the nose with a rolled up news paper though, I'm sick of muddy dogs bounding up to me and giving me two muddy punches to the knackers, only to be told by the owners that "there just being friendly" so I'm friendly back to the owner with a swift kick to the crotch.

Just because your 18 stone "puppy" is your baby, that don't mean I want anything to do with it, my son is scared if dogs, that's our problem, we don't go to dog shows, but we don't want to be confronted by your dog while on the park, because you can't be arsed to keep it in a lead, its bad owners that are responsible for the villification of so many beautiful breeds of dog, so clean your shit up, literally and figuratively.

Agree, our dog is very bouncy, no harm intended he just wants a cuddle & to play (and no amount of training has managed to get the bounce out of the dog). But I know not all people are dog people and smaller dogs & children could be frightened by his size & enthusiasm so we keep him on the lead unless it's an empty open space.

Completely understand and agree.

I adore dogs but don't want them jumping up all over me and I would be mortified if anyone out walking minding their own business had to deviate from their chosen path because of my dogs.

My dogs have been taught the 'Walk wide' command so If they are off lead and I feel they are too close to people or cyclists etc when I shout 'walk wide' they move right away.

Incidentally I dislike children so I feel your irritation re dogs

I agree that it is imperative that dogs are taught not to run over to people.

By the same token it is imperative that people stop their kids from touching other people's dogs as well.

There have been quite a few of these threads, and u hear from a few people that people should keep their kids away from their dogs, ok, here's the thing, a few years ago on a lovely hit day, I took my young daughter to the park where they had a series of paddling pools, she was splashing around laughing like inky a young child can, before I knew it there were 4 German shepards in the pools, the reason why? Their owner threw their ball into the pool, when myself and some other parents objected she threatens to set the dogs in us, and said her digs had every right to be there, now I know that this is an isolated incident, but I don't take my kids where there are going to be dogs I don't know on the lose, so why do dog owners feel hard done to when a child approaches their dog, in a park?, its a park, there is more than likely going to be children there and again, I would say that 90% of dog owners are responsible people, but that 10% shouldnt be allowed to own a dog, I'm not a dig owner because I can't commit the time to training it and looking after it as would be needed, so I will go without, but some people will just get a dog with no thought to how they are going to care for it, it takes a lot more than walking them when you have some free time and the weather is nice, its a bug commitment

Completely understand and agree with what you say. That woman is a disgrace. And why would you allow 4 dogs, off lead to chase a ball that you have thrown into a child's pool, then threaten to set said dogs onto you when you object. Words fail me!

But parents do need to educate their kids on approaching a dog. I get a lot of kids wanting to pet my dog, mostly I am sure because of his size. And while he is very gentle, and always on a lead, kids do just run up to him and touch without asking. I must admit, I tell them off a bit when they do.
