If someone asks you to trust them ..... You probably shouldn't.

It's always best to ask, do you trust me, and then to know your limits when that question is met with trepidation lol and it takes years for some people to gain trust.

And of course, it's rarely a case of trusting someone, more than it's about exactly what you can trust them with.

Kind of agree - it's more about my feelings and instincts about the person rather than what they say.

Good point - be honest, be truthful, keep your word and become a person worth trusting, then you'll learn how to trust, because your own existence proves to you that trustworthy people exist.

Those who say you shouldn't trust anyone, I wonder how trustworthy they themselves are?

"...are you more or less likely to, someone who tells you to place your faith in them?"

Could my trust in someone increase in someone just because they said "trust me"?

No. How could it?

Would I trust them less? I may actually be less trusting as a result, yes, potentially.

It depends on what is being entrusted and to whom. I'd probably trust you with a fair bit sexybrain.

Neither. I make up my own mind if and when I trust someone.

My gut feeling plays a big part in that decision though I tend to err on the side of caution.
