We have decided to go to new York I am looking for tips and advice best things to do see go get about best places to eat ect experiences of the time you spent there.

I'm from New York, so if you'd like some tips you can inbox me and let me know what sort of stuff you're into (indoors,outdoors, famous attractions, out of the way sites, etc.) and I'll write back when I have my laptop. I just hate typing long things out on my phone.

Don;t bother climbing the Empire State Building - go to the Rockefeller Building instead. It's much nicer, less expensive & crowded and when you take pictures you get the ESB in them

There's a place on 51st and Broadway that I love, it's called Ellen Stardust's Diner & Club. Good food and performing waiters, it's great.

I also like the Natural History Museum.

If you want tickets for a show go to the TKTS booth in Times Sq, opens at 3pm but start queuing at 2pm.

First of all we had an amazing time in NY.

The Subway is very efficient very clean and cheap.

Broadway theatres are very tight in the seating, seen them jump up for an encore... bollocks they can't wait to get out the seats!

Stardust.. we tok one look at the line and thought err no.

Truism.. if a cop is eating there it is ace.

We took the tube every where including the far end of Statten island.. they were shocked as in we were the first tourists to get that far and when we said yes to the cold beer we had no idea it cam in a glass fresh from the deep freeze.

Broadway tickets go at 6 or 7pm to the booths in time square and take pot luck but you save hours of queuing.

The Natives ARE friendly, very. The cops are very helpful.

Central park is huge and yep you need a map. The street theater in there is a total hoot.

It's not really worth the trip, it's a big water feature.. Basically. It's nice and all they marked the tradegity and have a monument to remember victims.. But beyond that it's.. Meh.

If you're passing it to get a train into nj on the hoboken path train, stop by and have a look by all means.

Hoboken is lovely BTW, the way it's zoned.. Very similar to a quaint UK town high street.. Xx.

do the downtown bus tour, start early in the morn and hop on and off at all the attractions and good bus tour guides that give you luts of info. do liberty and ellis island boat trip from battery park but dont bother queuing for the statue it just aint worth the bother.

Central Park is fabulous: especially on Sundays:

If you are into art: MOMA is fantastic;

TriBeCa has fabulous Italuan restaurants;

To guys; go to a " proper" Italian barber: razor cut, hot shave with cut throat razor ; hot towels etc;

Have lunch, or afternoon Tea at the Plaza hotel ( at the end of Central Park)

Great jazz clubs all over;

If you like blues: Terra Blues ; Bleeker Street " Greenwich Village direction is brilliant: good live bands .

There used to be a brilliant Blues place on 3rd avenue/ 82nd Street ( opposite where I lived) called Manny's car wash, but I think it's closed now.

my top tip is actually a flight one....

depending on where abouts in NYC you are staying..... it is actually easier flying in/out of Newark then it is flying in/out of JFK....... and sometimes cheaper......

A few thoughts. Ground Zero, getting a tour from someone who was there on the day was amazingly moving. We had a now retired fire chief, was completely non-commercial (he didn't even ask for tips) and made it all very personal.

Try walking the high-line if the weathers up for it.

Ellen's Stardust diner is a good bit of fun if you 'buy in to it'.

If you're shopping it up, don't forget your passport if you want it tax free.

LaGuardia is mostly domestic flights. Jfk is the main direct international one.

New York is brill!

I was going to share some pics from my last two trips but the Flickr URL gives out my surname, so PM if you're interested.

Top of the Rock - a must (Rockefeller Center). Go at night for some amazing views over the city, and back during the day if it's clear for the same.

The 9/11 memorial is a very powerful thing and well worth spending some hours at.

Walk the Brooklyn Bridge; it's a bit of a trek and you'll avoid many selfie sticks but the views from the bridge and from the other side are worth it. Here's a tip - when you're walking DON'T TURN BACK. Wait until you get to the other side, go down to Brooklyn Park and then look over to Manhattan.

Take a camera, you will need it.

Walk everywhere, dive into cafes and bars and restaurants. The night life is buzzing especially around the Meat Packing quarter (not a euphemism).

I've not spent much time there - probably three days all told. Went last year in February whilst on business elsewhere, then flew in from Utah for a quick stop over last summer. Would go again and again it's a brilliant place.

I'm lucky enough to have been all over the world. My favourite place is New York been twice and have been yearning to go back. You will have the most amazing time. On my bucket list to spend New Year's Eve in Time square x

If you want some place to eat that's cheap go to urban space it's on Vanderbilt it's just round the corner from grand central and there's about 30 eateries under one roof catering to every style of food you can think off

Been to NY a few times., although cold, go in the middle of Dec., magical there when its Xmas..., Happy Holidays as they say.,,

Ground Zero is nothing like it was just after 9/11 through to a few years back, its not really anything to look at now as its all sorted and nee now., probably the place i have visited that really gets you thinking, how horrendous it must have been etc., anyway, still worth going to.

You cant go wrong with NY and there is a lot more to do than you could even think to do in a week.

Dont be lazy, walk lots and you will see plenty.

The view from the Chrysler is better than the Empire as you also get the Empire in your view then.

Ice Skating at the Roc and also in Central Park.

Dont fall for just going to the popular restaurants., just pick random ones on your way around., good family owned and run type diners are great.

Anyway, i could talk about NY all day.,, message me if you need to know more.,,

Oh, hotel i stopped in was The Paramount Hotel, its just off Times Square.

I havent been to New York for a few years now, so I havent seen the finished ground zero project. I went when it was all rubble, and full of bulldozers and cranes. There is a museum with a room full of messages from families to their missing loved ones which was very poignant.

If you haven't been before a good think to look into is called a 'city pass'

Essentially its a book of tickets for all the attractions and money off several others.

It helped us plan our trip and gave us things to do we hadn't thought of.

Often you can skip queues too!

There's an amazing boat tour around Manhatten island, there's several lengths but the one that is 3 hours does a full circle, on a lovely summers day it's beautiful!

So I'd thoroughly recommend getting it !

I love New York, I cant even put into words why, its just the vibe of the place, the feelings it evokes, its an amazing city. Maybe its because it feels so familiar from the amount of films that are filmed there.

I start to feel really excited in the taxi coming from JFK airport, that first glimpse of the Empire State Building. But the best part is dumping your suitcases in your room and getting outside. As soon as Im on the street it makes me feel like screaming, I just love it.

There are so many things to recommend, all the obvious tourist attractions but make sure you go to different districts. Times Square is my least favourite, its exciting to see for the first time, but the beggers annoy me, every 2 seconds asking for money, and it feels really seedy very late at night.

I like Serendipity 2 restaurant, its quirky and they have fantastic food, especially the desserts.

Omg this city is just amazing I love it, spent 10 days there on my 40th birthday.

Amazing 4th July fireworks I can't put it into words, I would go back tomorrow if I had the money (for shopping) ha ha.

One tip for the ladies that want to do a bit of shopping don't hit 5th ave, get they grey line to a place called premier outlet it's about 2 hours from Manhattan join the members area on the website before you go as you get better discounts. It's like designer paradise and a fraction of the cost.

Ellen's stardust diner on Broadway is a must too, rather than do the official tour at ground zero go to the fire house just by it the money you pay goes to the firehouse charity, I found it much more informative but take tissues it's the most moving thing I've done.

We also took a tut tut around Central Park and walked it.

I could ramble on for hours about the place just amazing.

that is the circle line ferry i was talking about above.....

also great for when the city is hot and sticky its great to get a breeze on the river.....
