The original is a classic , Keanu and Patrick Swayze in the same film- can't go wrong really. It's one of those you don't watch for years but when you do - it's just a good watch from start to end. Not sure I'll like the remake.

If they must do remakes they should at least give a movie that was before its time a second chance, not movies that can't be made better.

Oceans 11, prime example.

The Thing (John Carpenter 1982 remade from the 1950s Howard Hawks movie) prime example.

Heat (remade from LA Takedown) prime example.

Here's the deal The Matrix proved that franchises and brands are big bucks The matrix failed though. Companies don't take risks anymore on new films unless they can farm out investments. Hence constant remakes, recognised brands are easier.

I hope it ends. It will. There's a great film called Room out at the moment it's independent and British. Also Duncan Jones' Moon has classic sci fi written all over it and that's original.

I can't think of a good remake either now you mention it. Thats annoying there must be one. Why isn't there ?

They tend to try to invest a lot less in small original movies now to put all of their weight behind the A-list. If it wasn't for experimental actors willing to take a pay cut and without up and coming filmmakers, they wouldn't bother at all.

The Last Days On Mars starring Liev Schreiber and Elias Koteas was brilliant and it was stunningly made for about £50,000.

Extinction was another great little horror but middle of the road stuff for big studios is usually budgeted in dollars at about fifteen million, whereas they'll go fifty million and upwards for something they think will draw billions.

Which was why Dredd, despite its weight and influential pull, didn't get a sequel!

Don't understand it. It's not just about surfers either. Why can't they just come to with their own ideas instead remaking a film but changing it at the same time?
