Winks instead of message

I wonder what you think about a person who sends you a wink.

My idea is that I don't want to be pushy, so I send a wink and if someone would be interested then they could wink me back or write a message. I wonder, if you like people who send you a wink? Or do you ignore them? If so, why?

I would like to know your opinion.

The right place

Surprisingly you will find that people on here will both agree and disagree with you on this.

I fall into the same camp as you. Winks are a simple non pushy way to indicate interest. If you get one back then it's a nice way to start a conversation.

But some people don't look at them.

I think people should make an effort and message not wink

I don't really mind either way but I mostly ignore them.

I rarely do, looked last week and most from men, there was a local couple so I messaged them thanking them. Turned out the wink was 3 months old lol

I used to love winks. And I still look at them. However, the longer I am on the site the more I find that I just don't look at them. I don't really know how it happened, to be honest. I used to be a big believer in the wink system, but I think we've fallen out a bit.

I think if a guy/couple wanted a better shot at a reply from us, he would just send a message and face pic. Even though I like the idea of winks, I don't think they are going to yield the same results.

Somewhere in North Norfolk

I didn't used to look at winks but I changed my mind a while ago.

If someone who I might want to meet, (i.e. I like their photos and their profile), winks, I usually wink back or send a message, depending on my mood. Otherwise I'll ignore them.

I don't bother looking at them myself, It's a known fact on here that Women/couples receive more messages then Men, So why Women/couples send a wink when they could just send a message I don't know

Many of us never even look at the winks page. I know I don't (I messaged myself to let myself know this critical information)

What does a wink mean exactly?

It's subjective to those that use it, and without knowing what it means is a non starter.

We send a message to convey interest and add info, and we request messages from others to convey their interest too.

I used to wink to show my interest in a non pushy way, but now I just message those that I feel I could be of interest too, the majority of my friendships have formed via the forums tho

You Dont Need to Know, right now

I never look at my winks. I think they can work well for couples and ladies, but single guys really have to work a little bit harder, to get noticed on here.

not far from iceland,,,,,, tescos is nearer though :-) (near leeds)

I quite like receiving winks,

I never send them as a show of interest , I think if the profile interests me enough to contact I'll message, I think the few minutes is time well spent.

"I never look at my winks, if someone is interested then surely they will message? "

Well, I don't want to be too pushy. And I don't want to send a message, which might not be even read... I spent quite a lot of time crafting a message, which might be ignored (not read at all).

I'd rather have a wink than a message

If I like someone ill let them know by winking back and go from there

Too much angst over messages on here

By winking you are putting the onus on the receiver to check your profile and get back to you.....if someone receives 100 or so winks in a day, where would we find the time to do this? So the simple answer is we don't know about the people that wink as we just delete them.

Just send a message. Winks are nice for the ego, but they don't do a lot more than indicate to someone they've been noticed.

I've winked too but I'm not sure I've had a response to one ever.

This is why we mostly wink, cos we can't be arsed to write a message that aint gonna get read

I don't look at winks, there are too many to look through. If someone is interested then they should write to me and tell me why they are interested.

Would be handy if there was a "turn a winks off" button existed...that way those disliking or ignoring them would not be bothered by them ?

I sometimes look through mine. If their profile pic looks appealing I might look at their profile and either wink back or forget about it. On the...very...odd occasion I have sent a message off the back of a wink

This sums it up well.

What is annoying is winks from couples with only pics of the lass. I usually just think, meh can't be arsed perusing this.

But,

When you're a male and you don't receive many winks, it's always nice and exciting to receive them.

I've had a couple of nice meets that started with winks...

I say wink away, winkers..!!

I agree it would be handy if there was a 'turn winks off' button. However, when someone tries to wink a non-winkable person, I want it to also show a message 'this profile does not accept winks' (like when we try to message someone when we are outside their filters).

I have no problem ignoring winks, and it doesn't bother me in the slightest. However, I think it would be nice for the winker to know that their approach hasn't got through. That gives them another chance to find a better way of getting in touch.
