What outdated skills do you have? I'm a trained touch typist up to RSA 3 with distinction. Fat lot of good that is these days.

I saw a minute-taker writing in short hand just the other week! So, still in use.

I remember loads of teletext page numbers.

I would consider good typing skills to be a major asset in this the keyboard age?

I know that the hours I spent with Accutype learning to type have been very useful to say the least. Accutype was small enough to keep on a floppy!

I am a professional typist, too. Of course it helps. Oh, shorthand! Russian shorthand at that.

yes I have that also, but the shorthand I learnt I think it was pitmand not sure but they then changed it to pitman 2000 anyway it was a new type being taught so even if they did still use shorthand anyone who had learnt a couple of years after wouldn't have u derstood mine anyway

How can keyboard skills be out of date in the computer age?

I have RSA quals and that's why people say ......... fuckity fuck when they see the speed I type without looking.

when I see a 15 year old that can type with two fingers as quick as me then I would say its outdated. It did used to!fascinate my friends daughters when they came round and I was on the big computer looking at them as I typed. But most people I see tapping away don't look at the keyboard anyway

I learnt Pitmans 2000. I think it's hard to read other people's shorthand. Sometimes I struggled with my own. I remember one financial director pronouncing finance as fenance and as you know the position of the constants are defined by the first vowel sound.

I would write it in third position instead of first. Not too bad with one word but she did that all the time with certain words.

I also have Rsa 3 typing at distinction and have Rsa 140wpm shorthand. I can still remember the shorthand but wouldn't like to rely on 100% accuracy when reading it back.

Java, c#, shell script, python, blah blah. I can program in them too. I can even teach em! Lol. I can code web pages with a database backend using SQL and ASP. All useless to me now and out of date.

I can still 'sweat' lead pipe to copper - not a thing I get asked to do very often now because there are all kinds of lead to copper fittings available - but I can still do it the old fashioned way if I felt the urge
