Anyone excited about these?

Just seen them on YouTube and quite frankly one of the dumbest looking things I've seen in a long time. Didn't we have these kind of things in the 90's... until nobody bought them.

If you care that much, why not just put on a hoodie and tape a tablet to the front of your face?

Visualisation of Architecture and design. Walk throughs to check the design is good.

But do the benefits outweigh the negatives? And by negatives I mean looking like a complete fucking dork when wearing it...

You do feel like a dork to start with but they are just a tool for the job. No one takes any notice.

I prefer a full projection room but they are a lot more expensive.

Was looking forward to their release, but then I saw the price!

$600 + Import Tax!

+ New graphics card at about £250

Grand total... somewhere round £800!

I'll wait a year or so till the prices are not so stupid...

I fucking love OR. :D

But then I'm a massive nerd and need shit like this to get me through life. lol.

I have a headset that I slot my phone into to watch 360 degree videos that's similar.

And when I'm doing that, the last thing I'm worrying about is how much of a twat I look to other people. Definitely worth it. lol

At least you admit to being a massive nerd. I think it's ok for nerds. What I resent is the marketing trying to pass it off as main stream.

There's some dick heads on YouTube screaming as it simulates a roller coaster - get a grip ffs, your children will see this video one day

LMFAO. OK yes. I'd only go crazy on them in the safety of my own home, and when not being videoed. lol

Not the same really...

OK so I admit I can be a real nerd at times...LoL

But the rift will be a fully immerser independent device when combined with the Touch (they will probably be another £200+ when available). In a way a little like the wii remote but perfect for some serious gaming!

I better be careful or I'll be talking the plastic out of my wallet!

I really can't believe you put OR in the same paragraph as "serious gaming" - I want to slap you to help you regain your senses

I have admited to being a dork...

I accept that standing and moving in my living wearing a mask and holding 2 thingies is not PC (sic). But how can you say being able to 'move and look' in the right direction does not make gaming better? (And more 'serious')

Depends what you play. If you play FPS then yeah it would but for me it's all about retro games, age of Empires (2 HD, although I dabble with 3) and football manager so it would be significantly worse than my 3 screen setup I currently have.

I expect WoT's and Elite will be much better...

May even start playing a more direct shootemup! LoL

Alright Grandad calm down and breathe

Oh and yes we had VR in the 80s and 90s but it was terrible due to the early technology. Now we have powerful CPUs/graphics and small high definition displays so it is actually decent this time around.

I won't be bothering with the Rift or HTCs VIVE though - as it means upgrading my PC - but I will be buying the PS4 version as soon as it comes up for pre order.

Oh and everyone that has seen VR through my Ritech V2 headset has been blown away

See I dispute that previous headsets failed because of the technology. I think they failed because of the lack of benefits. Much like 3D films, novelty at first and then you realise that you enjoy a good film irrespective of whether shit pops out at you and it doesn't stop a shit film being shit.

What are you basing your experiences on? And from what era? also have you ever owned or used a VR headset (not just a Google Cardboard) in the last couple of Years?

I'm starting to think OR missed the boat and also blew it selling to Facebook. A few major games such as Elite Dangerous aren't updating their Occulus support and are moving over to SteamVR and others.

I've got a Wii... it starts off as a novelty and it's fun for some games like Mario Kart. Then you try playing something like Resident Evil and it's just fucking annoying and you find yourself buying a traditional controller.
