Couple of my mates did it for a while and they both lost weight.

They were both fellas and did not get bored of it either but i suppose its each to their own.

thanks for the tip. i'm planning on starting it next week for a month initially. have tried something else but my body is so used to it now, reached a plateau.

i'm in good health otherwise, but have a slow metabolism even though I exercise regularly.

Yes it works - worked for my ex-wife very well, very quick results. Worked for me till I got fed up of not eating much veg (but I had so much to lose). It's a great diet for people who love lots of protein.

Am doing the slimming world diet now which suits me better. Best of luck and update us with how you are getting on.

You should try and see this programme by the BBC:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00ksh7c

(not available on iPlayer anymore, but may find it on other catchup services or the like).

It had some interesting points, one is to *know* how much you are eating, the overweight woman presenter was under reporting her calorie intake by ~50%! Apparently this is common and normal. She also had a normal metabolism, it turns out this is the case for 99% of overweight people, but it is a normal assumption due to thinking you are eating less than you are!

One of the biggest things you can do to loose weight is to use a smaller plate! going from 12" to 10" plates means you use smaller portions; big empty plates make people think they should have more piled up.

Increased protein in the diet works (aka Atkins) due to a chemical your stomach sends to your brain, counter acting the "I need food" signal.

Also feel free to watch this programme:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJkE32xwsO0&p=0BDE299F91143CF6

Which is about obese kids and Carnegie Met uni involvement in trying to help them (change of lifestyle, diet etc).

Thanks

We tried it years ago... we lost weight, had shit loads of heartburn and quickly regained the weight (which we have lost again since eating sensibly) when we stopped the diet....

Turn left at the Singing Ringing Tree

My ex tried it, and did lose some weight - but then put it all back again. One side effect that he had with it was he got bad breathe, and I've seen programmes on Atkins and this has been mentioned as well. Everyone is different, but just something to watch out for.

The most successful diet he went on was Lighter Life for Men. He lost 7 stone on it, but part of the diet programme is to go to counselling to identify the triggers that make you want to eat bad stuff. He wouldn't attend those, even though it was a male only counselling thing, and so ......... he's put all the weight back on again.

the key to sucess with any diet is sticking to it so which ever one you follow, find one that you like so you can still enjoy food without meals being a chore.

also read recently that skipping breakfast is the worst thing you can do... your body thinks it is being starved and stores more fat though the day. brekkie also boosts you metabolism through the day.

drink plenty of water... this can also boost your metabolism, it helps flush crap out of your body (not literally) and often thirst can be confused with hunger so it can reduce your appetite and cravings for food.

good luck

All that means is you are eating the same number of calories as you use up during the day.

If you go on a diet which doesn't consist of normal healthy eating, you will put the weight back on when you stop.

"has anyone on here ever tried and if so, does it work? i'm thinking of giving it a go. "

Atkins books are available very cheaply now.

Get one and read it thoroughly.

Then visit your doctor and have a few tests ( outlined in the book ) before you start on it.

It's total protein and water for two weeks. ( Meat, Eggs , Fat, Cheese, Fish, Poultry, Nuts, Cream and Butter ) As much as you want but nothing else at all.

After two weeks you begin to introduce other foods very slowly - using the lowest carb ones you can find.

After some considerable months you will be on a full diet of Protein, Veg, Carbs but you have to keep your carb intake quite low.

There is rapid weight loss to start. It is carbs that provide energy so when you are not giving your body energy it begins to take it from your fat store.

You will put the weight right back on again if ever you eat as you do now.

It's a lifelong commitment to eating healthily.

( No I don't do the Atkins I consider it very unhealthy and dangerous in the long term )

No one has a slow metabolism. They just don't shift their asses.

Only one way to lose weight and tone up and stay healthy.

Eat less , move more.

Part 3 of that BBC film actually gets to the nub of the problem, you eat more than you think you do!

On the other hand skinny people eat less than they think they do!

whilst I welcome your advice regarding atkins granny, your comment on metabolism is wrong.

i have suffered with an underactive thyroid all my life, in fact I was born with NO thyroid which means as I've had to eat sensibly, and i've exercised like a maniac since i was 19!

i've had a lot of success with slimming world in the past, but over the past two years, my thyroid medication has not being working, hence the extra weight gain, even with attending the gym three times a week!!!

Thanks juicy ..xx I should have said except those with certain conditions.

It's not an excuse that should be used unless it's been diagnosed as in your case. x

Eat less... move more.

A healthy balanced diet and exercise will help you lose weight and keep it off. It's a lifestyle change and you need to stick at it.

I'm not a believer in fad diets.

On the flip side was also a report in the paper this week that eating breakfast makes you want to eat more.

I thought it was just me, but if I eat breakfast I want to eat again by 11, then have lunch and also become hungry in the middle of the afternoon.

But normally I eat two meals a day, lunch either, soup and/or sandwich and then an evening meal.

I do find the smaller plate helps tho

Good luck
