Tory ideology

Insisting that the severely disabled who need an extra room to store medical equipment being hit with spare room subsidy and not being made exempt, despite being deemed illegal bx the european courts, the tories are appealing, even though the savings would be very small. One example of the repulsive tory ideology.

Tories will never do what's best for the working classes, or the venerable, the only reason they got in is because labour became some sort if Tory light, people can say what they want about Corbin, but he stands by his words, and his brand of politics, is more about the man on the street than being popular with the papers, in fact the more the papers hate him the better he's doing his job in my opinion, he didn't sing the national anthem, big deal, maybe he can't sing for shit, he ain't Obama, but his labour will be very different to the tories, so we will have a real choice, not just vote for the least shit.

The Tories are sick of 'shirkers' and 'scroungers'.

Alas come their policies.

The 'nasty party' label is fully deserved.

Look back to the Poll Tax in Scotland to see that they care not for people who don't vote for them.

Well they do get disability living allowance and sometimes other benefits. I know ones who are very Ill and they are reasonably well off.

The Tories aren't attacking people with this either. They are simply trying to generate/save money.

You can't possibly please everyone and the 1/100 people become and administrative nightmare for them.

I feel for them, but at the end of the day, a massive amount are on benefits and are getting enough to be able to pay.

You obviously do not know the history of this.

It was the Labour government that brought in the spare room penalty for all those living in private rented accomodation in 2008

The tories only levelled the playing field to make it apply to all rented accomodation

Coleford, Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire.

Just to put the records straight this stinking Tory government introduced the extra bedroom tax in April 2013.

Can I just add if this "we're helping hard working families" Tory government extracted the taxes from their rich buddies there would be no need for these attacks on poorer people.

What never ceases to amaze me is that an awful lot of wotking people are taken in by their lies ?

May the Tories rot in hell for the damage they have done and continue to do to our country.

I'm guessing you read The Sun?

I assume you're with the Tories, which is odd if you seem to assume they're on the side of workers. See their track record of gradual erosion of worker's rights, the cutting of in-work benefits (ie working tax credits), tuition fees effectively tripling, the recent changes to the Trade Union Bill intended to make strikes impossible, them trying to change the definition of child poverty so it makes the figures look like they haven't done so badly, for only a few examples (and I'm sure others here can bring up others).

The gap between rich and poor has grown and continues to grow under them, too. The average income for most has stayed the same or fallen with inflation since the recession yeeears ago (caused by the banks which have seen huge increases in profits since, but funnel them overseas to avoid paying tax here, which hurts the country) yet they refuse to do anything about it since half of them are donors to the party (and there's widespread clear evidence that large party donations allow you to 'make suggestions' on policies that effect you, so they're hardly going to vote to stop widespread tax avoidance).

There's a joke - "A banker, a worker and a migrant sit at a table with 20 cookies. The banker takes 19 of them and walks out, saying to the worker, 'look out, that migrant is trying to steal your cookie!"

Very controversial! I mostly agree though.

From what I see of the labour party, it's more of a "don't worry about the country, let's just give our supporters whatever they want... We will be popular and powerful that way!".

That's my interpretation of their actions anyway.

I disagree with you here!

I agree that they are not especially on the side of workers. There are good reasons why they limit unions rights, etc. It's because unions can be too powerful and cause the country's economy to be volatile. They could have power to destabilise the county.

Child poverty, I have no opinion on it. It's hard to pin the blame on anything. It's not always directly related to the government. There are too many factors involved!

The gap between poor and rich. I agree, it's growing, but why shouldn't it grow? A few of my friends are very wealthy. One of my friends is a millionaire. Why shouldnt he be one? He's paying 20%, 40% and 45% tax on his income as well as his business having to pay corporate tax!!! Tell me why he shouldnt be getting richer! He's employing over 1000 people and has dedicated his life to his business.

When the labour gov was in control, he told me that he was getting screwed over!!! When he told me how much he was paying in tax, it was ridiculous. People who are successful and employing many people should be encouraged and respected - not taken for a fucking ride! Who is going to make big business for the country and make jobs if we tax them to hell?!?!? Who wants to be ripped off for being successful? How is thst encouraging businessmen/women?!?

Don't worry about the donations either!!! The reason being is that if they don't please us as the voters, they will be out! End of!

A party may have a billion pound donation, but without public backing, they can do fuck all. Banks are also allowed to filter money back to offshore accounts. Companies are legally allowed to avoid tax, just as you and me can. You may choose to work up to your tax free threshold so as to avoid paying tax. It's perfectly acceptable.

That's my take on it anyway!

I'm sure all the folks down at the food bank are gutted for your pal, as are the pensioners sat wearing two coats because its a choice of heating or eating, its probably best if the public vote for who is going to do the best for them, but if that was to happen, what are there more of? Millionaires, or people bellow the poverty line, hmmm smells like a revolution, but its just not is it

A well articulated response with which I agree entirely. Unfortunately in this country we have a tradition of bemoaning and being jealous of people who have worked hard and got on instead of the American way of applauding them and saying "well done - good on you."

this from the guy who wrote 'Tories will never do what's best for the working classes, or the venerable,'

i simply failt to understand why the tories are not looking after those in high office within the church....

unless you meant vulnerable and were in fact bereft of those abilities.....

i love when a swinging site becomes a political debate and indeed becomes hostile.....

my personal _iew is all parties have some decent policies...

the fact remians that benifit payments are killing this country.... there are genuine asylum seekers fleeing persecution as well as those economic migrants that also see this country as a better life either to work or claim benifit. There are alos those who are now 3rd generation unemployed who simply have no intention or wish to work and know of every scam to claim every penny that they can milk out of the system.

I have every sympathy with those who can't find work and rightly they sould be supported, society also has an obligation to look after its vulnerable, but if individuals or families can contribute, but choose not to, why should everyone else pay ??

some Migrant workers fill a gap in the economy where those who are unemployed will refuse to pick crops or other manual labour.... then there are the unemployable by virtue of their own behaviour, but that is an entirely different thread....

anyway... shoot me down..... i may have miss-spelt someting myself

The Tories are only interested in striking dirty back room deals with foreign oligarchs / Saudis..lining their own pockets. look at the socioeconomic background of the constituents that make up the cabinet.. All greedy misanthropic toffs.

Labour are a shambles atm, they need to ditch corbyn and regroup QUICKLY if they want to be viable at the next election..

Re immigration, the Tories have faltered on all of their pledges to introduce tighter border controls. It's Just empty populist rhetoric . British politics is in a terrible mess atm.

Ofcourse ordinary people work hard.

I understand what you mean about greed, but it's just the way it is. In my opinion, an amount of greed is necessary to make the economic system work.

It needs businessmen/women who have a real drive to make something successful. With my millionaire friend, money drives him. If he didn't have thst drive, the business wouldn't exist. If he didn't have the drive, people's jobs wouldnt be there either.

I'm not on either side, workers or businessmen. I think there needs to be a balance.

I also think the Tories know this balance better than the other parties. A lot of them are very well educated people and know that workers are important. Ofcourse, being realistic, they actually can't be too biased otherwise they would never get votes. I'm confident that this government is a really good one!

"Just to put the records straight this stinking Tory government introduced the extra bedroom tax in April 2013.

"

"Tax" as in not giving people as much money.

Cause thats not how taxes work.

As for the "working class" im skilled manual labour, work in a factory and my income has gone up under the tories, thier changes to stamp duty is going to save me a nice bit of cash, thier adding of a tax free 1000 pound amount to interest earned on savings is going to help me this year too when it comes in in april.

They're the first government in a long time to encourage saving. (Help to buy isa being another great example.)

Plus they did the sensible and human thing with regards to the Syrian issue.

They refused to take the masses of fit young males who made it to europe and have been proved right in that action.

However they have taken some of the most desperate and needy from the camps, which while unpopular with many was the humane and right thing to do.

We cant afford to police hundreds of thousands of new arrivals but we can strech the budget a bit to provide medical care for the worst victims of war.

Millionaires and billionaires don't create jobs!... I know that sounds crazy.

Any good businesses person in their right mind will tell you.. Employing someone is the very last thing you want to do, what your actually doing is being forced to employ someone because the market is good and customers want to buy something from you..

The creator of jobs is a market or in plain English.. Customers!.

If it were remotely true that lowering the top tax rate for the uber wealthy created jobs.. I could safely conclude that the world would be awash with jobs, there'd be so many jobs, we'd just be tripping over them because in the last 50 years nearly every single western country has cut the top tax rate massively!.

If your making 10 million pounds a year and being taxed at 60% (not many are paying any tax) but even if you were... Your still coming out with 4 million pounds, your not exactly on your uppers.

The beetles coined the song the taxman while being taxed at 85%-90%... They still had enough money to buy rolls Royce's paint them flowery and drive them into hotel swimming pools, again nobody was impoverishing them with even that massive tax rate. Today we've got two bit singers making 50 million pounds, celebrity chefs, footballers, actors, models hell even politicans... There all making tens of millions and paying no tax!... That's how there getting wealthier and wealthier

I don't think anybody wants to punish wealthy people..

Bill gates, james dyson, Steve jobs, warren buffet, these are people who started out with nothing but a good idea and good ideas should beer rewarded, however what's happened through political bribery, yes let's call it what it is!!... The uber wealthy have lowered there tax to nothing or very little levels of 1 or 2%..

On the same hand because of this tax's on the middle class and working class have had to go up, yes they've doubled the tax on us to mitigate for the ubers shortfall, of course the 99% who are now paying more and more tax means they have less to spend and so that market that employs people has dried up... Solution, feed them with debt, you've gotta keep up the customers.. So now they've feed us all the debt we can handle and theres nobody left to give debt to, hence the credit crunch!

There's a life cycle in business just like life, big unsuccessful business needs to die so that the younger ones can come through, what we're seeing through political bribery is those dead old businesses clinging on to life for way to long.

They push for deregulation, less tax, lower wages because They can't compete against the little companies...

Here's my solution, tax the world's wealthy at 60% , stop all the tax havens, limit inherited wealth to 1 million pounds with a 60% tax on anything over it, apply capital gains on anything you make profit on including your house!! decrease the tax to 5% for the 99% of the rest of the country and watch it take off...

And I'll tell you why... You'll release the capital to give you markets and therefore customers and jobs while not reducing successful people to poverty!

No it's the opposite... You need to recapitalise the 99%.

There your market, your customers, your job creators.

The world's just spent about 10 trillion on recapitalising the 1% because they think trickle down works?. It doesn't, were crunching capital everyday with QE, the velocity of money has fallen through the floor causing more de-capialisation (deflation of the money supply)....

In reality you could have thrown the money from the back of trucks and had more success!

QE is exactly the form of bailout you'd expect when the uber wealthy are making the decisions...

There making the best decisions for them not the best decisions!

Regulate, limit the massing of wealth effect as best as you can and get the fuck out of the way!... That's the only rules you need for capitalism....

We do things backward IMO..

We worry about rising house prices and its effects... And on the same hand we give it exemption from tax on profits... WTF do you think would happen?

"Wake up Britain the labour party is not a working mans party and has not been for years its a party of spongers and lovers of any thing that will destroy the face of britain as we know it. its great for economic migrates pretending they are refugees and leftie tree huggers and self serving idiots with out a clue.

The banker takes 19 of them and walks out, saying to the worker, 'look out, that migrant is trying to steal your cookie!""

No I don't read the sun it's what I've seen with my own eyes typical leftie comment tho from yourself..

Doesnt matter what the colour of the politics, all perties are out of touch with the people - they haven't a clue.

Both Labour and the Conservative's failed to collect billions of pounds in corporation tax from huge companies and now the current government is trying to balance the books by grabbing back a few quid from struggling disadvatanged people - maddness!

To be honest, I'm not entirely sure if its working. You hear these horror stories of people who are terminally ill being made to go to fit for work inter_iews, and some of them being branded fit for work. However someone I know who is able bodied is 'unfit for work' due to 'stress and anxiety'. What from? I work in a busy IT department and I get by.

Another thing that irks me is single parents with umpteen kids. I'm sorry, but if you're going to farm babies you'd best make sure you choose a guy that you can rely on to provide for them. Nobody should be entitled to more than a full time wage in benefits no matter what their circumstances are.

Its wonderful how selective you Lefties are in your condemnation of behaviour. You fabricate catchphrases like 'The Bedroom Tax' to mislead people and bring up exceptional cases of those living in Council houses who already enjoy subsidised rents. Forgetting of course it was LABOUR in 2008 that introduced their own 'Bedroom Tax' for those in Private (and therefore unsubsidised) rented accommodation ONLY with the Local Housing Allowance (LHA) for those claiming Housing Benefit. And hey guess what it was decided by the number of bedrooms you 'needed'. NO extra allowances for families with children in Armed Service, or carers or those who can't sleep in one bedroom. No it was, and still is, a case of: 'Can't afford it? well fuck off then'.

Oh and of course those in subsidised Council Houses were left alone to claim the FULL Housing Benefit. "To them that hath shall be given!"

And you Lefties claim to be all about 'equality'? Don't make me puke ...

At least EVERYONE is now equal...

Got to smile at some of the hilarious crap spouting forth from the Lefties in here. Same shit different day ... OK lets bust a few myths (or muuths as Cloussaeu would say):

* Social mobility has increased since 2010.

* The Deficit is about 40% of what it was in 2010.

* Child poverty has been reduced since 2010.

* The tax burden on the lowest paid has been reduced since 2010.

* The measurement of 'poverty' is such that poverty 'increases' as a country gets richer. ( 60% of the median wage).

* Wage growth in Britain hit a four-year high of 2.7% in April 2015

* UK growth has outstripped every one of our EU 'partners' for 3 years.

* Inflation is at an all time low..

* Interest rates are at an all time low.

* We have a 'Living Wage' starting in April.

* Tax for the top earners is 5% more than it ever was under Labour.

* There were more millionaires on Labour's Front Bench under Milliband than on the Coalition side.

* The highest paid 3,000 people in the UK pay more income tax than the bottom nine million.

* Nine million poorest paid workers contribute less than four per cent of the total income tax receipt

* The richest 0.01 per cent earn 1.9 per cent of total income but pay 4.2 per cent of total income tax.

Etc etc ...

So please all you tree hugging sandal wearing liberal Leftie do gooders please stop plying your trade in lies and emotional deceit. Get YOUR house in order and explain why we should vote for a CND card carrying, Commie loving, IRA admiring clown who would never use our Nuclear deterrent, wants the Army disbanded and who wants to borrow like their is no tomorrow to fund some Socialist Nirvana. Ah the endless political debate rages on. IMHO they're all as bad as each other, making promises that often they fail to deliver, but boarding the gravy train along the way. Ultimately, along with religion and money, politics is simply a tool to manipulate the masses.

It was his Grandfather actually and of course they need help. And SURPRISE.. there IS help as Councils have many £165 million of standby funding to help families just like this. Its called the Discretionary Housing Payment (DHP) funds. So all they have to do is NOT reduce the Housing Benefit and claim that money from Central Government. Just like they claim the Housing Benefit itself from Government. Sadly in 2014 only 70% of Councils had committed to claiming their due DHP funds.

Like all things this was a technical legal decision on a very particular wording. Judges do that. But it has been expanded by the Lefties into something entirely different. Any excuse for a chance to shout 'Bedroom Tax' forgetting of course they created a much more vicious version for private tenants in 2008. No emergency funding back then .. Oh and those Lefties won't tell you that Private Tenants under LHA have their Housing Benefit capped... Not the Council tenants.

Here is a number for you:

Average Council rent in England = £85 (2014 - 15)

Reduction of Spare Room Subsidy = 14%

Actual average loss = £11.90 a week.

20 fags = £9.35 at Tescos.

They're mostly running with a psychopathic disinterest and willingness to cause pretty much any greater misery to the population. As long as they can implement the ideological changes that they feel compelled to. Deceit, manipulation of others, causing deaths, whilst smiling for the cameras is all normal for them.

And sadly they will talk some sorry individuals who are likely recipients of their loathing that their ideology is right for all, including them.

By his results Ian Duncan Smith should have been sacked - as well as tried for crimes against humanity a long time ago. Another lickspittle nobody, I'm ashamed to be from the same race as him, following the colossal harm that he's caused to so many of our people.

So the increasing number of people having to use food banks, more than 50% of which have at least 1 working parent under the coalition and tory government is all lies I take it? Sorry as much as tories give with 1 hand they take with the other. Just look at what Osbourne tried to do before being defeated in the Lords. The new living wage is a joke as it doesn't and won't match what wage is needed for people to live off until 2020 when guess what the cost of living will probably be higher. However before I get branded a leftie no I'm not as I agree with tory policy of no such thing as a free lunch. Unlike IDS and Osbourne however I think those incapable of looking after themselves should be looked after and those capable of paying their way should do. A fairer Britain is needed where poverty should be a thing of the past instead of a thing of the future.

What is poverty?

No holidays, no Play Stations, no massive flat screen TV's, no gold sovereign rings, no alcohol, no cigarettes?

Every 'poor' person I've ever know has all of the above in spades. And I've met loads of them.

No one in this country is in genuine poverty unless they are spending their money on unnecessary things.

It'll be those (families) making the arduous trek to the nearest foidbank.. Those who have to decide between heating or eating..

Poverty exists in the UK, the gap between the haves and have nots is getting bigger.

I'm sorry but your post reads back like a daily mail byline.

Private Enterprise and wealth are not a bad thing at all, when the poorest and most vulnerable are being raped and pillaged and horrendously vilified and scapegoated.. To distract from poor government and the accompanying poor economics.. There's something very amiss

"So the increasing number of people having to use food banks, more than 50% of which have at least 1 working parent under the coalition and tory government is all lies I take it? Sorry as much as tories give with 1 hand they take with the other. Just look at what Osbourne tried to do before being defeated in the Lords. The new living wage is a joke as it doesn't and won't match what wage is needed for people to live off until 2020 when guess what the cost of living will probably be higher. However before I get branded a leftie no I'm not as I agree with tory policy of no such thing as a free lunch. Unlike IDS and Osbourne however I think those incapable of looking after themselves should be looked after and those capable of paying their way should do. A fairer Britain is needed where poverty should be a thing of the past instead of a thing of the future."

Only one thing I will comment on as you pretty much say what I say .. (You may wish to disown this now...)

Foodbanks were actually started under Blair's Government and the numbers need to be read very carefully. Is a woman going to a Foodbank twice a year two visits or one person? And if she has a child is that 4 visits or 4 people? I won't drone on here but this article from the Guardian is pretty good:

http://www.theguardian.com/society/patrick-butler-cuts-blog/2015/may/04/those-food-bank-data-complicated-yes-exaggerated-no

From other sources it seems that average users go twice a year. And the main reason is a delay or cancellation of benefit payments. Another little disclosed number is how many people are now NOT using Foodbanks because they have found a job and come off benefits.

Well I can give you every source for each of those items. Can you provide anything other than Leftie sideswipes? I doubt it but hey go for it...

Let people visit Bangladesh to see REAL poverty. This country has the most generous Welfare system in the world. The Yanks laugh at us for it. We have free NHS medical care. We have State Pensions and we house people in need. We even give them furniture and money to spend. Try getting that in Germany of France. Its why we are overrun by millions of East Europeans who know poverty and are escaping from it.

Statistics can be manipulated and skewed to suit any agenda. I know through my brief stint working with charitable organisation in England, devastating, grinding poverty exists in the UK. It's not that uncommon unfortunately. That's reality hun. Live in denial or accept the truth. Your choice.

"Got to smile at some of the hilarious crap spouting forth from the Lefties in here.

The quote may be an old one, but it's still relevant.

How would you sort the ones that need sorting?

Those who don't want to work and expect everything for nothing as if the state owes them a lifestyle.. always complaining as they puff on their fags and their kids play games on their flatscreens...

Quite often with more money in their pockets each month compared to some who work hard for very little and is left with nothing after paying bills etc. How is that right?

Poverty's defined as being when household income is below 60% of the median income.

That's not measuring poverty, it's measuring inequality. Whichever side of the argument you sit on surely poverty needs re-defining?

And I'm not sure how they're "fiddling" the unemployment figures?

I wish no further discourse with you.

My comments were not aimed at you,

so I apologise if you think I was picking on you.

I am quite willing to accept different opinions, but not political dogma. Again not directed at you.

"That's not measuring poverty, it's measuring inequality. Whichever side of the argument you sit on surely poverty needs re-defining?

And I'm not sure how they're "fiddling" the unemployment figures?"

I agree about defining poverty. Not having luxuries, for me does not mean poverty.

Inequality I can live with, so long as there is equality of opportunity to begin with.

So being given 10 pounds a week less in housing benifit, causes "big time poverty"?

Really?

And I'm not sure how they're "fiddling" the unemployment figures?

Many moons ago the only benefit for those out of work was unemployment benefit (the dole).. and the magic number remained under 3 million...

Mass job losses in the mid to late 80's took this figure well beyond 3 million. So to avoid admitting more than 3 million unemployed, you could only receive unemployment benefit if you were made redundant, or had just left school and didn't have a job yet.

the decision was then made to move a lot of non workers onto social security which cut the numbers claiming unemployment... unemployment figures were taken from those claiming unemployment benefit.. hence the number remained under the 3 million mark.

Those on social security faded into the shadows.

delightful chap aren't you.

So why do you find being given 10 pound less towards your free house, because its bigger than you need so abominable?

You could get a job? Or go sit on the street you'll find begging you can get 10 quid quite quick if you get a good spot, easily before the police move you on.

Or at least get your food foe thw day or you can hit a pub beer garden around 6-7pm on a friday and you can get a tenner from just one tables with a good story.

In the 90s anyone signing on for benefit because they were unemployed were counted. UB or IS, only those on sick were not. And a lot of them were capable of some kind of work.

Which is why all the back to work schemes started up to help all kinds of people ease back into work.

Something many won't realise is that, whatever number are unemployed, that is a rolling number. Genuine people who sign on leave within 3 months. Only a portion of people are still unemployed after this. They then get extra help.

The long term unemployed, over a year I think, are a relatively small group and are often benefit cheats or very sad people lacking social skills etc.

But the ONS calculate the figure not the government??

And they use two different methods. One based on job seekers allowance claimants, and one which surveys the total labour force. So in the second instance it makes no difference what type of allowance you're claiming...

"They're mostly running with a psychopathic disinterest and willingness to cause pretty much any greater misery to the population.

Right rather than everyone thinking they can be politicians and arguing why don't we get to the original point of the post?.

Yes OP this is a issue, I have personal experience my best friends daughter has severe disabilities. Last summer as she graduated ( special needs school) the government in there wisdom decided as said child was an adult she should pay full council tax, her mother should pay the extra bedroom tax, child benefits should stop as did her disability living allowance.

She was ordered to attend a inter_iew to see why she wasn't actively seeking employment.

Her mother wrote explaining the situation listing all her child's medical conditions and said she would never be able to work.

Very smart worker wrote back saying although she had a medical letter to prove this they would need to see said child to prove it to them.

This was done and still she does not have the benefits she entitled to and currently paying the extra room tax.

It's a huge flaw in the system, those who have major disabilities expected to prove worth whilst others seemingly get away with it.

Said friend has now taken her issue further and hopefully petitions will create a system where people who have children with severe problems will be clearly listed so this doesn't happen again. It won't happen now, but possibly next year.

And when it does let's hope it helps all those families from going through the crap like this

" Oh my. Are you Daily Mail reader? "

Dear of dear is that the best you can do? I bet your end of term report read "Really must try harder"

So what if I do read the Daily Fail?

So what if I don't.

But if you had paid attention you would see I actually quote from The Guardian.

Now care to make a constructive comment or what?

This is another problem this country has, voting apathy. Fewer people vote in the Government than are able to vote.

There are various ideas to fix this but none seem workable or right.
